About Me
Not every Dj can do the show which has original manner and worth to be played in public. The result of many years of hard work at the decks for some djs is emotions of massive, spinning technics and original stuff. There s no doubt - these are the main skills of the dj. The number of Djs making the mixing in not standard way and doing the perfomance is the minimal. Dj Erik is one of such brilliant examples at Russian drum'n'bass stage. Starting as a dj in 2002, he has achieved already much and that’s all about his extraordinary mixing skill, where the main detail is scratching and, as a recent feature, the turntablism. Also, Erik is a member of The Allen&Heath co. So far, Erik has performed at a lot of prestigious festivals, being on one stage with the leaders of the world drum'n'bass music stage, like Technical Itch, Aphrodite, Adam F, Cause 4 Concern, Sub Focus, Ill Skillz, Future Prophecies, Muffler, Noisia, Distorted Minds, Negative & Many mo. Erik has been to more than 20 regions in Russia and the close-to-Russia countries, performing his brilliant scratching shows. In 2004 Erik founded a promo-group "Ruff Cutz". The main purpose of the foundation of the "ruff cutz promo" was to bring the best and the most famous scratch djs and musicians to Russia from abroad and to organize really huge, massive raves, which would become historical events and would be remembered long after. At the same time, though he had already achieved much, Erik didn't stop. He developed his scratch skills more and more. Lucky turn in Dj Erik's career was the day he met Y.G. and Kust - underground hip-hoppers from Moscow. The thing is, Erik has always loved rap and hip-hop culture on the whole. So, this let him open the boundaries of his scratching skills to the widest form - Turntablism. He started to work with Y.G. & Kust closely at LevPravZvuk and PrimeRhyme Production - famous Russian hip-hop labels. Erik says that he wants to develop high quality scratch Djs and turntablists that would bring great music to ppl, not just "play tracks", but create their own music using the highest turntablists' skills. So, the 1st step is already made - Dj Erik recently took part in a multimedia school for starter Djs, produced by Dj One, that sells more than 500000 copies all over Russia. Together with N-Tone they were invited to record a scratch teaching course for a Dj school-DVD (the only one in Russia so far!) But that's not all. Not very long ago, Erik has first tried himself in music production: with a famous Russian musician Vortex Involute together they recorded a soundtrack to the most expectable computer game of 2005 - Lada Racing Club (a Russian analogue to Need For Speed). The game came out on the 15th of March, 2006, and kicked the ass with the cool soundtrack! Actually Erik’s path really changes from other djs’ careers in good matters, cause it’s full of all kinds of innovations. Last news: on the 15th of May, 2007 his first recorded mix came out, called “The Moscow Lights†– a mix of the most hot fresh tracks from the most respectable and popular Russian drum’n’bass musicians. You can only hear the most part of these tracks at Erik’s performance (with copyright exclusive?) and exclusively in the recorded mix. The Moscow Lights mix has the right to be known as the very first drum’n’bass mix that was released in Russia and observed the copyright law completely. This fact, and also the fact that all the tracks with no exceptions were used with full agreement from it’s authors (Russian musicians) was the main idea and the Erik’s top dream – show that there is worthy music in Russia, there are really huge talented authors, and that native drum’nbass music has the big potential. It is necessary for Russian Dj’s to support Russian musicians and play their tracks and include it in their mixes – so that native music market would develop and we could speak of the real drum’n’bass movement in Russia. In the coming time Dj Erik is planning to continue releasing his new mixes regularly, and support young and talented authors just as well-known musicians in Russia. Dj Erik is expected to be a big hope for Russian drum'n'bass club stage, because only a few ppl in Russia know so much about how to make you own great music and make something absolutely new out of music made by other ppl. Dj Erik is an expert in this. And he hopes to leave a whole generation of professional turntablists in Russia, for Russia to become a good part of the World market of club music.drumandbass.ee (c)
