Sayaka Yabuki

About Me

Born in Japan, Sayaka grew up playing the violin in her musical family after they immigrated to the USA. After tapping her ears into electronic dance culture while abroad in Europe, Sayaka began experimenting electronically in the mid 1990s, using samplers, drum machines, sequencers, microphones, effect units, record players, MD recorders and mixers. Early formative performances included sets at Lightening Bolt's Fort Thunder, DJ C's Toneburst parties at MassArt, and Gnome Fatty Tribe's Circle Boston raves. In 2001, while living in Japan, Sayaka recorded her first preliminary album, Rebirth to Love, with bare necessities access to technology. Limited to a small mixer, a QY70 sequencer, a cheap microphone, a basic MIDI controller and two MD recorders to bounce tracks with, she wrote a simple but promising collection of tunes. This project, Rebirth to Love, under the guise Sayaka Starlite, has toured through Tokyo, Japan, Melbourne, Australia and Providence, RI. After returning to the USA, Sayaka completed her studies in Visual Arts at Brown University while she fed her curiosity in radio broadcasting and film scores. In the last two years, Sayaka has been focusing on DJing, while studying music technology & composition. Recent production work includes guest vocals for Black Cab, Memory Geist and Steve Law. Sayaka's live vocals has graced sets by DJ Giedrius, DJ Hoska as well as her own mixes. Rebirth to Love is available by special order - contact the artist for more info.
