Yeah, it’s a job some days, but also, I love the sport. I love being with my fans and on the track with my team.Racing is in my blood, I can’t imagine doing anything else. The sport has been good to me, and I thank the Lord for the position that I’m in. I just want to keep riding as long and hard as I can.A perfect weekend for me would be pole position, fast lap, winning the race.My monthly schedule is filled with PR functions, going to the airport, lap tests, press meetings and practice. It’s a full schedule but I love what I do. I spend what little free time I have going back to Kentucky, and doing sports activities like cycling and basketball.I love music too, like hip hop, rap – Eminem – although the only talent I have in music is listening to it.I released an authorised biography on me and my brothers, aptly titled The Haydens: Nicky, Tommy & Roger, From OWB to MotoGP. The release was timed at Red Bull US Grand Prix, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in 2007.I was putting off the book initially but luckily, we hooked up with a cool journalist who made it easy for us. My family and I enjoyed the process of looking through old photos for the book. It made us appreciate each other all the more.My family are a strong, close-knit family.
I don’t go back to Kentucky a lot – I spend about almost two months in a year there, the rest of the time I’m at my place in California or my motor home in Europe where I have my races – but I’m trying to spend more time with my family.
I usually hang out in my parents’ home or at my sisters’ – it’s a great place to meet girls.It’s sad but true that money and fame can tear relationships apart, but it hasn’t hurt us.
We had to get adjusted initially, but the family is strong and we know that family comes first.
My family has kept me pretty level-headed.Next year with Ducati is a big opportunity for me. It’s like starting over and I’m looking forward to it. I’ve had nine years and a career with Honda, but it’s time to move on to something different.
I know it’s not going to be easy, but I will make the most of it and start with an open mind.About girlfriend… I don’t have one. My schedule doesn’t permit it and it’s just not the right time yet.
