Brief Respite voit d’abord le jour sous un autre nom, Les Mauvais Clowns. Fondé à Mont-Tremblant P.Q. durant l’été 2003, le groupe possède une allégeance sonore beaucoup plus Heavy Metal qu’aujourd’hui. Le départ de Yan Tremblay, chanteur et guitariste, ouvre la porte à deux nouveaux membres qui vont petit à petit, faire changer les choses au sein du groupe. L’arrivée de Luc Giguère aux vocals et d’Éric Barbe à la guitare apporte au son du groupe une influence beaucoup plus Black Metal. Forte de ses changements internes, la formation compose alors trois nouvelles pièces qui seront intitulées Lullaby to the Moon, Shattered Glass et Good Againts Bad. On réadapte également quatre pièces plus anciennes pour les ajuster aux vocals de Luc. Une autre pièce, Order by Chaos est également écrite en vue d’un concours qui s’avère être un grand succès aux yeux des juges et du groupe.La composition des pièces Last War et Passing the Gates a l’effet d’une révélation pour Brief Respite. Possédant 10 pièces solides à leur actif, ils prennent l’initiative d’aller enregistrer un démo au Studio Mordicus à Sainte-Agathe-des-monts dans les Laurentides. La qualité de l’enregistrement est telle que le fameux démo devient leur tout premier album, intitulé Lullaby to the Moon.Au cours de l’été 2004, Stéphane Tremblay, le bassiste d’origine, quitte le groupe pour être remplacé par Steve Courtemanche qui, possédant une plus grande maîtrise de l’instrument, apporte de nouvelles dimensions aux lignes de basse des compositions.C’est au début de 2005 que les choses se mettent à débouler. Après avoir fait l’écoute de Lullaby to the Moon, Great White North Records propose un contrat à Brief Respite, groupe que la compagnie juge très prometteur. L’été suivant, le groupe s’embarque pour sa toute première tournée : 16 shows à travers l’Est du Canada, partageant la scène avec Fuck the Facts et Towards Darkness. Alors que 2005 se termine et malgré les formidables événements qui l’ont marquée, Brief Respite perd deux autres joueurs : Steve Courtemanche & Éric Barbe quittent la formation pour cause de raisons personnelles.Au cours des premiers mois de 2006, Brief Respite accueille à la basse Matthieu Bélanger et Mike Chichippe à la guitare. Le groupe, complet à nouveau, s’offre plusieurs fois en spectacle, assurant même une solide prestation au Club Soda de Montréal. Ensuite, Brief Respite reprend la route pour partir en tournée, dans l’est du Canada encore une fois, accompagné par Hellacaust, un groupe originaire des Maritimes. C’est en revenant que le groupe achève la composition de leur deuxième album. En janvier 2007, les membres retournent au Studio Mordicus et avec l’aide de Donald Fleurant (Nouzôte, Talisma), exécutent l’enregistrement d’Uneveness. L’impressionnante qualité sonore de leur deuxième opus, proposant un Metal beaucoup plus actuel, promet au groupe nombre de nouvelles opportunités. C’est dans la foulée de la production d’Uneveness que Brief Respite entre en négociations avec Prodisk avec qui ils signent un deuxième contrat de disque, assurant donc à leur tout dernier album une distribution et une diffusion adéquate. L’album sort donc le 27 mai 2007 et l’été qui suit, Brief Respite offre plusieurs prestations au Québec et en Ontario. Ce n’est qu’à l’automne suivant que Uneveness sera officiellement lancé, en grande pompe par exemple, lors de la glorieuse soirée de clôture du Festival des 25 ans de Metal Québécois.En Décembre 2007, Prodisk propose à Galy Records de prendre le groupe sous son aile pour le booking de show. En Janvier er Février 2008 deux show sont présentés lorsqu'une autre page du groupe fut tournée. Le départ inattendu du chanteur Luc Giguère laisse le groupe sur une lancée de spectacle à venir vers une impasse étant donné les talents vocalistes de Luc. Les auditions commencent mais ce n'est qu'en mai 2008 que Martin Gauthier se propose comme chanteur remplaçant et permet ainsi au groupe de se remettre en marche pour des shows ----- The former members of Brief Respite meet on the summer of 2003 at Mont-Tremblant, Quebec. At that time, the band which is only a four-pieces band, is called by the french name Les Mauvais Clowns. After the parting of Yan Tremblay, the former singer and guitarist, two new members enter the band to replace him. The arrival of the singer Luc Giguere and Eric Barbe on the guitar brings a new Black Metal vibe to the band’s music, which at that time, has a lighter – heavy metal - sound. Then, the band reworks some materials, which are parts of tracks what would be later called Lullaby to the Moon, Shattered Glass and Good Against Bad. They also readapt old songs to fit with Luc's voice. Order by Chaos is written for a contest, which is scheduled on the 27th of December 2003, and is to take place at the Cyclone bar in Ste-Marthe-Sur-Le-Lac, Quebec. The show reveals itself to be a 45 minutes success for the judges and the band.The birth of the songs Last War and Passing the Gate, in 2004, is litteraly a revelation for the band and seals the true musical style of Brief Respite. This is followed by the recording of a demo album at studio Mordicus located in Ste-Agathe-des-Monts. With the help of Donald Fleurant (Nouzôte, Talisma), ten sound-blasting tracks are recorded. This album is to be later entitled Lullaby to the Moon and would appear be the very first Brief Respite album.In the summer of 2004, bassist Stephane Tremblay left the band and is replaced by Steve Coutemanche. More experienced, Steve brings new dimensions to the bass tracks in Brief Respite.2005 seems to be a year filled with good promises. Shortly after the album is completed and re-mastered, Brief Respite spreads its word and rapidly, gets echoes of it. Astonished by the sound of the album, the record-label Great White North offers Brief Respite a contract for the release of Lullaby to the Moon. On the following summer, Brief Respite starts its first real tour. First of all, the band offers gigs in Montreal and then, it takes the road with two other bands, Fuck the facts and Towards Darkness, for a series of 16 concerts all over the eastern end of Canada. This joyful year ends sadly though, when Brief Respite encounters the regretful departures of Steve Courtemanche and Eric Barbe.In January 2006, the band welcomes two new members: guitarist Mike Chichippe and bass player Matthieu Belanger. Early the same year Brief Respite does a couple of gigs in and around Montreal and blasts the Club Soda’s stage with an electrizing performance. Stronger as a band and on stage, Brief Respite headlines a second tour over Quebec and the Eastern Provinces, where they share the stage with Hellacaust.Back from tour, Brief Respite gets to work seriously on the second album. In January 2007, the group gets back to Studio Mordicus to record its second opus, which is to be called Uneveness. The album’s impressive and striking sound, which reveals an inspired, fresh, type of Metal, gives the group a number of opportunities. Shortly after finishing the Uneveness’ production, Brief Respite meets with Prodisk and signs a second contract, which guarantees a proper promotion for the new album. The LP is out on May 27th 2007 and the following summer, Brief Respite gives a couple of shows all over the Province and some in Ontario. It’s only in the fall that Uneveness is officially launched on the last gig of a series of concerts celebrating the 25th anniversary of Quebec’s Metal music.In December 2007, Prodisk proposes in Galy Records to take the group under its wing for the booking of show. In January er February 2008 two show are presented when another page of the group was turned. The unexpected departure of the singer Luc Giguère leaves the group on an impetus of concerts come towards a dead end being given the talents vocalists from Luc. Hearings start but it's only in May 2008 that Martin Gauthier proposes as replacing singer and thus allows the group to restart for shows ..
