BIOGRAPHY
"Athenaeum" Saxophone Quartet was founded in 2004 at the homonym International Cultural Center. Today, it consists of four musicians with common aesthetic and artistic objectives: Stella Arabatzoglou , (Founder and Artistic Director, soprano saxophone), Anna-Maria Kardami (alto saxophone), Vaso Mandroni (tenor saxophone) and Marietta Tsakmakli (baritone saxophone). The musical activities of the members vary a lot. They have given concerts in Greece and abroad, they have acted jointly with Greek and foreign Orchestras, they have been presented as soloist and also they have taken part in many theatrical shows. Individually each one, has interpreted works of Greek composers in first performances.
The aim of the Quartet is to range from extremely lyric and warm sound to absolutely jangle, passing trough all intermediary grades as well as through the interpretation of classic and modern repertory of different streams. The objective to all intents and purposes, is to bring out both the technical capabilities of saxophone and the ensemble’s ability to adapt in different styles. This makes it as one of the most interesting expressive media of chamber music.
The quartet is suitable for concert-style performances as well as background music for symposiums, conferences and other indoor events. Musical selections are tailored to suit each event.
