About Me

I'm just a radioGirl (Well, I WAS.....) who puts her heart and soul into a serious mission: bringing independent music and artists to as many peeps as I can. It's not my career. I don't get paid. I just can't help it.For the past seven or eight years, I've hosted and produced (along with my dog, muddy waters) a music show on one of the few independent/listener-sponsored radio stations still breathing: KPFT 90.1 FM in Houston, a Pacifica station.....all for FREE (yes, no paycheck....just lots of gasoline bills and music store receipts.) But, as of October 19, 2007, I have stepped down from radio for a while. This is STILL my passion, though. It's been my mission to bring the brilliance, the soul, the beauty and the inspiration of the artists and their songs which I feature, to those who yearn for something real - and to those who don't know they need it.Let's face it. Major record labels and radio conglomerates suck these days. They're pumping out artists who don't write their own songs - don't sing their own songs - but look good enough to sell a multi-platinum record. Dumb America tends to eat what it's fed - fluff. The real people behind the real music - the real artists who write their own songs - the real songs which can inspire us, move us, love us, comfort us, piss us off and tell personal and others' stories are off the mass radar. But on KPFT, some of us are trying/have tried our best to connect the artists with an audience.I want to say thank you to the hundreds of listeners and supporters whom I've either met or conversed with over the years. Without you, there would be nobody to bring this music to. And without the artists, there would be nothing to bring to the people. It was an incredibly difficult and painful decision for me to step down from the show. And there's really nothing so far that's made it any easier to sit with. I just need to work on my own goals and dreams for a while. I hope that I've made a difference. Well, I know that I've made a difference along the way...and it was with great pleasure and heart. I hope someday i can make more of a difference or that right at this moment, someone else will step up and continue where i am leaving off.....muddywatersthedog is probably the most disappointed. he became such the radio star. he has become a legend. an icon. and it never went to his head.If I could single-handedly change the world of music, real music, i would do it in a heartbeat. Until then, i will use these two hands to pick up more hands which will pick up even more hands...until we change it together. If your'e not in Houston, you can stream KPFT 90.1FM..... at www. kpft.org - enlighten yourself - TUNE IN! The Morning Mix features great music MONDAY thru FRIDAY mornings, 6 - 8 a.m. central time and has a different host each weekday. Check out the program shedule on the KPFT website for other music shows (I recommend The Weave, all the blues programs on Sunday, Joe's Roadhouse, the Blueshound, Spare Change and Laurapalooza) and keep independent music around.SUPPORT your non-profit radio stations in your town. If you can't do it with your wallet, then get INVOLVED! Love to you all. So much love. -cp.s. i'll still keep the myspace and maybe now, even have more time to keep the calendar of shows updated!!!
