I am a genuinely happy person, but it’s taken me a lot of work to achieve this state of mind. I don’t judge others, and I really like to listen. I’m an excellent advice giver, but only because I’ve had myriads of life experiences - more bad than good - and somehow I always seem to come out the other side a stronger, smarter, and more complete human. Finally, I’ve entered that stage of love and acceptance, where the few relationships I have are based on trust and mutual respect. I believe that the number of friends you have in life is irrelevant, as long as the connections are true, real, deep and intimate. Allowing and trusting someone to know the absolute essence of yourself and receiving that in return is one of the greatest parts of the human experience and contributes to creativity, self worth, imagination, world view and intelligence level. These shared experiences will erase petty conversation, boredom, lack of self-esteem and a disregard for those who are not as fortunate as yourself. The word “hate†is simply not in my vernacular, as the whole concept is disingenuous. “Hate†causes wars, kills women and children, creates domestic abuse, self mutilation, rape, murder, disfigurement and religious misinterpretation. I am an advocate of pro-choice/abortion but do not support it as a birth control method. Multiple abortions can lead to extreme guilt and emotional distress for a woman. However, there are cases where abortion is necessary, or where having a child and giving it up for adoption would certainly damage a young woman who is unprepared for such a decision. We are not educating children properly (at least in the United States) and thus, they do not learn proper birth control techniques or about how much pleasure can be given in other ways, which are not so consequential. Sex is not dirty. The planet is overpopulated, and there are plenty of abandoned children who desperately need families to give them food, shelter, and love. Moreover, I support the marijuana lobby. As a victim advocate for the Florida Highway Patrol, I never had to tell a family that their child was killed in a car accident because they were using marijuana. I did, however, have to break the news to families time and time again that a child had been run down by a drunk driver or that a teenager was killed while driving drunk. Not once was I given a toxicology report where the driver who caused a fatal accident was only using marijuana. Their blood was always soaked with alcohol (and sometimes not so soaked.) Legalizing and taxing marijuana would bring the United States out of national debt, repair social security, pay for national healthcare, and keep recreational users out of prisons and protect them from turning into criminals. I would have great admiration and respect for any presidential administration that had the guts and intelligence to put the measure on the floor and convince those who are merely wary or completely obdurate as to why the laws should be passed. I will try to keep my views on organic food short, although I could make a film or write an entire book about the subject. Corporations (five of them to be exact) are controlling the food source in America. We pay higher prices for industrialized food, which destroys the environment by using huge factories in order to process the output. Grocery bought beef is sanitized in ammonia in order to kill off the fatal E-coli 0157H7 virus. The largest slaughterhouse in the world is located in North Carolina. They have an exploited workforce of illegal immigrants wherein they have a deal with U.S. Immigration that border patrol will take only 15 of their workers per day so that the production line won’t be interrupted. They slaughter 32,000 animals per day. It makes you wonder how big their workforce is and how clean the animals can possibly be by the time you get them home and into your stomach. Runoff from such factories and industrialized farming complexes affects industrialized vegetable farms. I won’t delve too far into chicken, but suffice it to say that with all the hormones, their bones cannot grow as fast as the heavy meat which they are carrying. This is why they cannot walk in their houses and ultimately roll around in feces all day. And that’s why your chicken is filled with antibiotics, as are the cows you eat. They simply cannot stand on their own legs because their bones cannot grow. Which brings me to the medical and insurance industry. Without the illness caused by unhealthy food (such as Type II diabetes, which one out of three children born after the year 2000 will suffer from) the medical and insurance industries would implode. It is no mistake that the Food and Drug Administration is connected and housed under one agency. “Buy locally, think globally†may seem like just some hippie slogan to you but it will save your life and your wallet. Buying your beef, chicken or pork from a farmer whose food is free-range farmed, even if you have to drive 100 miles to procure it, will keep you out of the doctor’s office and off of medication for high cholesterol and a bad heart. Genetically altered vegetables are not healthy for anyone. The package doesn’t tell you how they’ve been altered, so buy your veggies from the local farmer’s market. If they have one in Miami, I can assure you that they have one in your town or city. Or failing that, grow your own garden, no matter how small. Native Americans worshipped this land. The white man destroyed it. As human beings, we need to learn to worship what we were blessed with, that means everything that nature has provided for us, rather than the almighty dollar. It also means that we need to learn to respect what we have been given as homo sapiens, the species. Our brains are equipped with reason. No other mammal can claim that. Except, perhaps, the dolphin. So why are we not reasoning? Why all this upheaval and decimation? We are the only ones who can stop it, and it starts with you. So let’s begin. If you made it this far, it’s really nice to meet you. Peace, light, love.
