Michael Martin Jr. was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota in the infamous complex of Handover Town homes where he spent the majority of his life. "Handover was a world inside a world, a place where everybody came. Some for the good but most for the bad," says Michael. He grew up in a single family home with his brothers Stevie, Tremaine and Tre but was left by himself as his brothers relocated to Detroit, Mi with their father. "I was real young then but me and my brothers was closer then ever and it was hard being the youngest without them. I had nobody to look up to accept my mom"But soon Tre returned to unite with his baby brother."Tre overly protected me but I knew he loved me to death because even still today he want let anyone come close to me""Mom worked so much I had no choice but took take my little brother in my arms although we was so young, he meant the world to me," says Tre."I have to say I envy and thank my mom for all she has done. All of my brothers would agree that she's a very strong independent woman of God who doesn't need any man to take care of her except for Jesus."Life struck young Michael through a bounty of obstacles in his early youth. Adversities such as loss has been detrimental and its tough when your a child still searching and getting a feel of your foundation."Two of the most hardest losses that has tortured and haunted me I would say is first the divorce when I was 3. I never got to see my father again until I was in the first grade and even though that might not seem like along time but when your only 3 it feels like eternity even though my mom was only trying to protect me. Lastly the death of my grandma (my moms mother) when I was 10 caused more than just traumatic pain. She was my fair lady and I was really close to her and that killed apart of me because I remember after spending that summer with my father all i wanted to do was go see my grandma when I got home but things didn't go that way."After many years of struggling to find himself Michael was born again at the age of 11. He feels completed at the age of 18."Seven is one of the most powerful numbers in the bible that means completion and at the midpoint of the seventh year of my baptism, I feel more than just inaugurated with life. God has anointed me with a gift I neglected when I was young that is being shown now"Speaking for Michael has never been hard but being the youngest he never had to speak up for himself. Poetry is an artistic language that he has developed and is now putting his talent to use."I always loved music and writing, I just never knew I'd be this good at writing"Michael was featured in the YWCA’s 2006 fall quarter Newsletter. He has been recognized for his creative articulation with words, becoming the YWCA’s spokesman.Along with his recognition, he quickly became a renowned motivational speaker as he spoke for Robin Hickman on two separate occasions: one at the Minneapolis Hilton during the big brothers gathering as she received the Hope Award, introducing her with an original poem, and at the Minnesota History center during the Gordon Parks celebration, reflecting on his legacy and reading one of Gordon Parks’ poems and also his own.Currently he is structuring his own business, centered around writing, specifically poetry and song writing. He is becoming one of the best writers and an inspiration amongst all age groups. His passion comes from the heart unlocking the captivities of his soul, you can feel his spirit within every piece he composed."Poetry is my second language. I'm just another work of the Lord being used as Gods tool. My work helps liberate the captivities of ones mind and causes them to think in another way."Michael is an upcoming artist who uses music as a way to stay connected with his brother Tremaine who is also an up coming artist."When my little brother first started rapping, I thought he was gonna be just like me but he's not and proud to see that he found himself instead of trying to be somebody else," says Tremaine.Minnesota is thriving with local artists and rap groups around the twin cities. when i asked Michael what makes him different from everybody else that's doing music he gave a humble response."Music and poetry is all I think about and I have diversified myself as a writer and by being an artist only brings a new swagger to the rap game. I feel that my talent will make me successful not a big record deal."Michael has been rapping since the seventh grade but has taking it more serious as he continues to write. He has matured a lot from his past.Once a struggling teen, Michael has come a long way from adversity, converting his flaws and past experiences into success, as his message empowers every soul he reaches."Music is all I know, poetry is who I love"
