NICO

NICO (Nick Casimir) was born on the nature island of Dominica in the Caribbean. He took up music at an early age. While still attending St.Mary’s Academy Secondary School in Dominica. NICO teamed up with his brother Francis & Julie Mourillon (of Exile One fame) and formed the band “Every Mother Child” playing bass guitar & singing lead vocals. This band experimented in crossing rock with calypso & SOCA, bringing on a new ambience to the local flavours of Creole music. E.M.C. were one of the major highlights at "The Harlem Music Festival" held in Dominica in the early 1970's this festival was the fore runner to the now famous & established Creole Music Festival.Based in Dominica the band travelled extensively to the neighbouring French islands of Guadeloupe & Martinique. NICO went on to become one of the top bassists on the island.NICO has also played & gigged with top bands in Ethiopia where he completed his secondary education. He then moved to the United Kingdom where he gained his BA in Marketing at the University Of Bristol.NICO has also done DJ work in his time & co-owned the sound System Roadblock International in the early to mid 80`s. Those were the days of massive house parties in the London scene.NICO is a talented song writer composer & lyrist, plays Bass & Guitar & owns his own Studio; some of the songs from his current album “No Way Back” are featured on this page. His compositions are to a large extent reggae/lovers rock but he composes soca and zouk material as well reflecting his Dominican Afro-French creole roots.NICO is a fulltime Management Accountant working in a top Record Company in London, a career choice that enabled him to link his music passion with his formal training in marketing. NICO continues writing, composing & producing his musical works. He is currently writing for his next album & some of the tracks I have been privy to hear will just blow your mind!
