About Me
RiCHARD.GEAR is the latest incarnation of Austin born deejay, David Schacherl. David grew up in the club scene, his parents being prominent Disco owners in the seventies, and was fed a steady diet of classic Disco, New Wave, Classic Rock, Funk and Acid House. In the mid nineties, David received his first set of turntables at the tender age of 13 by family friend and former Austin DJ, Richard Bellavue, and began deejaying classic disco records from his parents collection. Not long after, upon the pleading of his older brother, David was allowed to attend his first Rave and was exposed to new styles of Electronic music such as Drum N Bass, Jungle, Electro, IDM, Trance and all manners of House music. David immediately began deejaying Drum N Bass records and continued to attend, and eventually spin, many more Raves.
Drum N Bass held a long period of David’s early DJ career, and during the summers and on weekends, David held the decks at such infamous clubs as Velvet (Old Red Room), Pulse, Asylum, Club M, Plush and Spiro’s. At age 18, he held a weekly live Drum N Bass night at the Whisky Bar alongside internationally recognized electronic drummer/percussionist, Eric Tatuaca (aka eVL_E)As the years passed, David’s taste’s fluctuated and expanded; and in the spring of 2005, David gave birth to his newest DJ alter ego; RiCHARD.GEAR. Focusing predominantly on current Electro and Techno sounds from France, Germany, Baltimore, and Los Angeles; RiCHARD.GEAR’s sets are not limited to the above but are known to incorporate classic and current Disco, Funk, Soul, and just about any kind of electronic music you could think of!As RiCHARD.GEAR, David has been taking the Austin nite life and it’s inhabitants by storm.
