About Me
Eddie Bobè’s experience and knowledge encompass the musical traditions of the Caribbean and their links to African heritage.As a percussionist his expertise includes drum set, bata and conga drums (tumbadoras), timbales and bongosBecause of his academic knowledge and ability to communicate the subtleties and complexities of the genre, scholars, professors and cultural organizations have utilized Mr. Bobè as a consultant on books, articles and documentary films, and as lecturer, teacher and clinician. He has also written liner notes and reviews for related recordings.--------------------------------Through the years Eddie Bobè has been a teacher at the New York Drummer’s Collective, the Boys Harbor Music School, Johnny Colón School of Music, the Third Street Music School, the New School for Social Research, , and at the Jazzmobile. He has given lectures and demonstrations in New York public schools and library systems, and 2006 Cuban popular Music on Film at The Stone NYC along with Henry Medina and has imparted private instruction since the late 1970s -----------------------------------------------Mr. Bobè has performed with his own group at venues such as The Jazz Standard and Tonic The Jazz Gallary and the Zinc Bar .--------------Mr. Bobè’s broad historical knowledge allows him to transcend the cultural traditions of specific islands and to grasp wider patterns of the Caribbean. He is one of a few specialists in the music traditions of the Caribbean as a whole,----------------------------------Eddie Bobè is a unique innovator in the lineage of the many percussionists who have refined the use of multiple congas in creative musical settings. Eddie has been successful in transposing hand-drum patterns and concepts derived from folk traditions to the drum set.
