Company Fierce Academy works particularly with young people from BME communities from these inner city areas, many of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds. Without Company Fierce, these young people would never see even participating in dance as an option for them, let alone consider dance as a potential education or career choice. Through beginning with training them in various elements of street dance, forms these young people recognise and can respect, Company Fierce gives them a strong grounding in contemporary dance and ballet which helps them to gain access to professional level training.The Academy comprises of no more than 20 talented young people, boys and girls, aged between 12yrs–18yrs.Working with Free Expression Dance UK, Company Fierce continually raise's funds for there student's to be able to attend dance schools around England. Fundraising initiatives ranged from sponsorship through performance platform events to bag packing at the local ASDA. For Company Fierce this is an opportunity to demonstrate the talent, skill and resourcefulness within the local community, showing that nothing is impossible. The success of these individuals not only benefits them but the other young people involved, and the wider community, through raising aspirations and creating a sense of pride and achievement.As the Academy develops a national reputation for training young people in dance, Darren is continuing to work on raising awareness of its work. The success so far shows how much talent is going to waste because of barriers in the UK’s dance training system. Young people from BME backgrounds and/or economically disadvantaged backgrounds find it hard to access professional level training.The Academy student's having now been wowing audiences and in the past have been requested to perform by Rio Ferdinand, Simon Cowell, as well as feature in various pop promos. The Academy has established itself as a leading training centre in the UK.2006 brought an amazing turn of events with the when it won the highly prestigious Art 06 Award for outstanding work with children and young people.All staff are from BME backgrounds, who aswell never had this opportunity 10yrs ago.REGISTERED CHARITY NO. 1120541
