About Me

My name's Robert Grant Bookout. I go by Bobby. I grew up in the country outside a small town in South Texas called Carrizo Springs... Graduated in '98 from Lee High in Midland. Went into the Navy (fleet) for four years. Got out and started school at South Plains College in Levelland Texas under their commercial music program in Fall of '02. Did that for three years and in '05, I joined the Navy Reserves (seabees) and deployed to Iraq with NMCB 22. Got back... finished school May of '07... Became Keenan LeVick's hero in July of '07... Now I'm in Austin working on my album and hope to release in summer '08. It's all been an adventure and I'm really lucky to be living my dream right now... I've been blessed with an awesome family and some of the greatest friends in the world. Influences: I'm influenced by a lot but music isn't just influenced by other music... real music's influenced by life and what we take in everyday. Life in all states is beautiful, even at its worst. Music is also beautiful regardless of the mood or emotion it conveys or reflects... I hate when people base their 'likes and dislikes' on the popularity of a given artist... that's such an ignorant/narrow minded way to evaluate/appreciate something so great. Every song to me is it's own, so I like a broad range of music, from some of the most popular to stuff that's pretty obscure. Choosing to 'not' like a song because it's 'trendy' or vice versa is ridiculous and in actuallity shines a light on a much larger problem with our mentality and lack of identity in America. And naming 100 bands you're pretty sure most people haven't heard of in your music section based simply on their lack of popularity, doesn't make you profound, mysterious, or hip... it makes you lame... So, with that said... I'll step off my soap box and say that first of all... Elvis Presley is one of the greatest things to ever happen to music... nobody yet has come even remotely close in versatility and I'm all about some versatility, aside from him, Incubus... they're more bad ass than meets the eye, Jimmy Eat World (Clarity was rad), Lauryn Hill, Radiohead, Michael Tyler, Tom DeLonge, Billy Idol, Jay-Z (one of the greatest MC's alive), Coldplay, Prince, Fiona Apple, Black Thought, Frank Sinatra, Muddy Waters, Trent Reznor, Ani DiFranco, Nirvana, Thrasher Shiver, Timberland, Phil Collins, Buddy Guy, Deftones, Wilco, Moby, Dave Matthews, George Strait, Boys II Men, Alanis Morissette, Harry Connick Jr., Marilyn Manson, BB King, Queen, Hendrix -of course-, C.C.R., Ray Charles, Nas, The Cure, George Michael, ACDC, Outkast, John Mellencamp, Bob Marley, Dave Grohl, Garth Brooks, Robert Johnson, Aaron Lewis, Rob Thomas, Pink Floyd, Beethoven, Jerry Lee Lewis, Otis Redding, Gary Allen, Sigur Ros, Howlin' Wolf, Nirvana, The Temptations, Nickel Creek, The Beatles, The Judds, UGK, Dave Navarro, Tupac, Diamond Rio, Michael Jackson, Jeff Buckley, Travis Tritt, Eric Clapton, Chili Peppers, Junior Wells, Dru Hill, Mana, Stevie Wonder, Billie Holiday, Dispatch, Merle Haggard, Ben Harper, Hank Williams Jr., Air, Dwight Yoakam, Bryan Adams, U2, Jewel, Led Zeppelin, and as of late... Sounds Like: Well, that's the question of the year... I don't know, I like being versatile as far as style's and influences go but I don't think I really just sound like anyone... I don't know... I do know that I tend to sound like me a lot... but only sometimes and often rarely...
