On July 8, 1947, a barn in the middle of Sullivan County was transformed into a theatre, and the Forestburgh Playhouse, then called the Forestburgh Summer Theatre, opened "Blithe Spirit" - its first of more than 250 subsequent productions.Dubbed the "Miracle of the Forest," the Playhouse continues to thrive by seeking to achieve its mission: the nurture of young theatrical talent.This year, under the leadership of Producer Norman Duttweiler and Artistic Director Ron Nash, the Playhouse will celebrate its 62nd birthday and will offer a wide range of musicals including "Wish You Were Here" ; "All Shook Up" ; "Les Miserables" ; "Showboat" ; "Rent" and "Hairspray" and a play that made Broadway history "Golda's Balcony" as well as a full season of post show cabarets and children's theatre.Forestburgh Playhouse continues to offer its own unique version of summer theatre to audiences of Sullivan County, making summer nights special for residents and visitors alike.
