Born in the Pacific Northwest in 1973, I have been back and forth across the United States several times over the course of moves and vacations. During one of those trips, my father bought me my first comic book: a Superman and Plastic-man team-up. It was my first step into the world of the fantastic, and I haven’t looked back since.
I began writing stories in the third grade. They featured some of my favorite fictional characters, and I would read them to class during Show and Tell. It was also in the third grade that I was first introduced to Dungeons & Dragons. I still fondly remembers opening the D&D Basic box my parents bought for my birthday and flipping through Keep on the Borderlands.
It wasn’t until my senior year in high school that I took my first serious steps as a writer. Not only did I enter a short story in a statewide competition — I lost — but I decided that I would major in English in college.
Over ten years and at least four changes of my major later, I graduated from Portland State University with a degree in writing. Later that year, I won the Maiden of Pain open call and am now pursuing my dream of becoming a full-time novelist. Check out my website to follow my progress.
