One glimpse at the songs played on the local hip-hop radio station and you will understand why Cool Sosa prefers to be called an artist or a musician instead of a rapper nowadays.
Hailing from El Paso, Texas, and at 25 years of age, this emcee lives for the stage. The highlight of his career came in September 2008 when he performed at Minerpalooza, by far The University of Texas at El Paso’s largest pep rally of the year, attracting over 18,000 people. His performances are electrifying; he strives to captivate the crowd as energetically as T.I. and Busta Rhymes.
Cool Sosa does not just listen to music, he studies it; sifting through everything from Redman to Jimi Hendrix for golden nuggets of inspiration. While he is not above the occasional club banger, he considers developing themes and story-telling as his bread & butter. His favorite song he’s ever written, titled “Shooting Starâ€, is about a young woman who was willing to do what ever she had to do in order to live her dream. The path she chooses takes her from the hood through a drug addiction which leads to her hospitalization, and finally to an untimely end.
While his following isn’t the most significant in numbers, he is well on his way to becoming one of the most respected musicians in the Southwest and acquires new fans at every show. Add that to his charisma, plus his ability to communicate with members of various cultures and backgrounds, then toss in his virtually clean lyrics, and it will not be long before Cool Sosa is diversifying local radio.
