About Me
6SEVEN9
The story begun in 1999 when Nua (Lead Guitarist) and Ai (Drummer) founded 679. After almost a year of practice the band had a few problems with the current line up at that time and kept changing band members and positions until Fiq joined the band to handle the position of bass guitarist. In the late year of 2000, Anip has joined the band to take charge of both guitarist and vocal position at that time. These guys have stick together to feed their hunger to form a Punk Rock band and have kept practicing.
With new enthusiasm 679 started to write songs for the demo tape that their have planned to released in 2002. With raging pure Punk Rock sounds, 7 songs have been written and the band had finally done the breakthrough and reached to the XS Studio, Ampang, Selangor (Now known as Malibu Studio) to record their first demo. The band wasted no time and headed to the studio with line-up Nua (Lead Guitarist), Anip (Guitarist and Vocal), Fiq (Bassist) and Ai (Drummer). The story of “Give the Best of Yourself†begun..
"Give the Best of Yourself" was unleashed on the New Year’s celebration of 2002. It was raw but it was ‘okay’ for their first single. The demo immediately gathered tons of raving reviews and feedbacks from the listeners.
By the end of the same year, the band was back in releasing another demo CD, it’s called “Share a Smoke and Smile with the Jokeâ€. This time they recorded it at a different studio: Easyrise Studio (Sony Music) Ampang, Selangor, just to gather more experience. “Share a Smoke and Smile with the Joke†is a demo displaying 10 songs with ‘intro’ and ‘outro’ included. Most of people started to know 679 after this second demo especially among punk rockers in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur after this demo was released. The band got offers for gigs more than they have got since their first demo.
In 2003, the band started to write new material for the next demo CD. After heavy practising and rehearsal sessions 679 were back at XS Studio again in the late of 2004 with 4 new killer songs, including with a couple of tracks taken from their second demo for bonus track. The new demo was titled “Lick It and Stick Itâ€. It was recorded live same as their two demos before. The masterpiece was finalized at the studio and been released by the year of 2005. It was that time that they ‘Veni, Vidi, Vici’… if you know what I mean.
â€Lick It and Stick It†have left a great impact on them as viewers and fans gave almost a positive comments on it (at least most of them..ahahaa). They’ve got more offers for shows from different organizers after releasing their third ‘baby’. (Syukur….). After those 3 successful demos, they have played a few gigs around Kuala Lumpur despite most of them was so busy with studying. After almost 2 years they have been not recorded any demo, 679 finally made a comeback in 2008 with their first E.P ever! With all new written songs, a mind-blowing music arrangement and with the same line up, they all hit the studio again!
This time it was recorded at Sinar Studio, Danau Kota, Selangor, with the help from the experience sound engineer Mus (May) and Shamil (Starduzz) to record, mixing and mastering the E.P. 8 new magnificent songs was being recorded and mixed track-by-track at the studio and the band have hired a few sessionist for the sounds of ‘horns’ in a couple of songs that was included in this E.P. This E.P was called “Hard Journey Begins Hereâ€. After all that they have been through, after many tough years that they have walked through together, they have had a tough journey just to kept this band breathing. But to them, it was just the beginning. That’s the reason why they called it “Hard Journey Begins Hereâ€.
Several months later after their E.P's been released, after meetings by meetings and after discussions by discussions, the band has decided to take 3 new members for 3 different positions. The motive was simple: They wanted to take the band to the next level. So they search for a new vocalist, keyboardist and trumpeter to complete their transformation. After a few auditions and long story shorts, in August 2008, that positions have been filled in. Ssyllbi as the new vocalist, Ezmyr (Keyboardist) and Aboy (Trumpeter) has joined the band. Now 679 is in great shape with 7 band members ready to rock the scene!!
With new blood in veins the seven guys started to prepare their selves for a single song that they need to record for a compilation album with many other great bands in Malaya (a project by a local minor label). In November 2008 the band entered Bakri Studio, Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, to record their ska/punk rock/metal masterpiece. They chose one of the Allahyarham Datuk Sudirman’s songs that was called “Chow Kitt Road†and was recorded with their own style. The recording and mixing just took them 3 months to complete it with a touch for final mastering by Bakri (Meet Uncle Hussein). The compilation is called "Punk Rock Goes 80's" and will be release by this year (2009). So, watch out folks!!
The year 2009 is the year that the band has been waiting for as the band celebrates their 10th Anniversary in this year. The band is very grateful because they have never thought that they will be marching on this far. It's all because of the support from our friends and family, 679 CREW, all of our fans out there (thanks a lot!!) and of course, God Almighty for keeping our band alive.
Now, 679 are back at the studio, writing new songs and making proper preparations for their new album that will be launch by the year 2010.
The new era of 679 has begun...
