Hong Kong 99

Hong Kong 99 formed in 1997 in Bologna, Italy. Marzio M.M. sang and played guitar; Stefano C. played bass and Monsieur Claude L. played drums. In June 1997 they released a cassette demo in 99 copies. Half of them contained a ghost track: a cover of “Surrender” by Cheap Trick. In spring 1998 the band released their first and only record: a vinyl E.P. “La 25ma Ora” with 4 songs (from a 15 songs recording session in August 1997) for the Slok Records label. Hong Kong 99 recorded another demo (unreleased) in the summer of 1998. In June 1999 they record what should have become their second single “Gas & Stress”; only 1 of the 4 songs will surface in the compilation “All This And More” in 2000. In 1999 the song “Sheila” (from the 1997 session) is featured in the “Soniche Avventure Punk” CD compilation for Fridge Records. On August 30th, 1999 Hong Kong 99 played their last gig. On December 22nd, 1999 Stefano “Pugnaro” Cervellati died in an accident and the band decided not to continue as the impossibilty to replace such a dear friend and person. In the year 2000 a compilation of Stefano’s songs is put together, called “All This And More” for Fridge records. This site is dedicated to the memory of Stefano and to the few people that saw this band live on stage.
