Cyster Scalpel were formed in 2004 by Andy 'Anders' McDonald, with the aim of playing music inspired by classic rock acts such as Iron Maiden, AC/DC and Guns N' Roses. This proved difficult however, as suitable musicians were hard to come by, and the next four years saw a spree of hiring-and-firing until the perfect (current) line-up was complete. Even though little progress was made in the way of live shows during this time, Anders continually honed the sound through a series of home-made demo tapes, taking the essentials of the classics into the 21st Century and incorporating a fresh, modern metal edge and punk spirit, believing it to be a waste of time to simply emulate what other bands had done in the past.
In July 2008, the new Cyster Scalpel opened for Dear Superstar at the Glasgow leg of their UK tour, where they were congratulated on a stellar performance by both audience and peers alike, and soon afterwards recorded their demo EP, 'Seeds Of Revolution'. In November and December of the same year the band were offered a support slot at the famous Cathouse in Glasgow with Alestorm as well as the chance to open for their hero Tyla of glam rock legends The Dogs D’Amour.
Heavy metal rock ‘n’ roll is about good times, and that is what Cyster Scalpel embody. Their all-for-one attitude, amusing theatrical element and passion for playing the music they love creates a live gig atmosphere that many unsigned – and signed – bands fail to deliver, and with their eclectic, multi-genre encompassing brand of hard rock music, they aim to tear down the walls that currently split the metal community into unnecessary cliques.
