Well, I'm Mike and I'm a singer/songwriter/pianist/keys player based in Edinburgh. Just finished my first album - Leitmotif Man, a couple of tunes from which you can play from above. I also play with Freaky Family who you should check out @ www.myspace.com/freakyfamily
I like vices. I think that although they are fundemenatlly detrimental, a person's strength can be measured by how often and to what extent they willingly self-destruct. There's nothing i like more than to curl up and attack my body and mind. However, credit is only due if at some point one tries to kick the habit, be it smoke, drink, sex, chocolate, shopping, food, dwarf porn etc. Success is irrelevant. What matters is that we can see and understand what we're doing to ourselves and each other. What we do about it is entirely up to us. I like fantasy, stories set in another plain of existence, myths with advice on how to live our life. I like thinking. I like sex. I like 'green hoodies'. I like my three brothers, my mum and dad, and all my relatives. I really like my friends. I used to be all about jazz, then i was all about funk, now i dunno. I like Naruto. I like Bleach. I like 24. Go through stages of liking Lost. I love Edinburgh.
Born and bred in Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland. Ended up here because i came to study. To date have been in bands with Austen George, Chris Bradley, Jed Milroy, Tam Treanor, William Douglas, Rossco Galloway, Ahmed 'Aki' Remally, Jamie Graham, Nik Paget-Tomlinson, Allan Ferguson and D.C Ellis to mention a few. Have played the Wickerman, Knockengorrick, Kelburn and Jockstock festivals. Have recorded with Jim Sutherland on albums for Alfonzo and Blueflint and for the Electric Ghosts with John Williamson. Currently recording with Joe Acheson(Joe Acheson Quartet) and Phil McBride(Sonic Lodge) on the upcoming Freaky Family Debut Album. You can catch me most nights down the Jazz Bar or sitting in with the Ruby's crowd. The Mike Kearney Ka-tet also has a monthly residency in Whistle Binkies.
As far as the Album's concerned, we recorded it up at Andy Thorburn's house in the north of Scotland, Barney Strachan engineered it up there, Will Molleson played drums, Nik Paget-Tomlinson played bass and when we brought it all back to Edinburgh spent the next year and a half engineering and mixing the rest with me out of Plump Studios. It was mastered by Iain Mc Kinna @ Offbeat. Everyone involved did a sterling job and there was fun. But don't take my word for it.
Anyway, have a listen, if you like the stuff, tell your friends. If you hate it, tell your enemies. If you're indifferent then try and have a nice life. Whatever happens, the album is now for sale from such independent Edinburgh outlets as Avalanche(Cockburn st), Ripping(South Bridge), and Coda(The Mound). If your not about though, or you can't be arsed walking you can follow the link below to CDBABY.COM where you have the option of purchasing the seperate mp3s or the actual cd.
The thing about anything is that everything it consumes it makes part of itself, even the waste. Good Luck with everything you care about.
