While this four piece cover band thinks fondly of deadly viral zoonotic dieases, we call ourselves The Rabies for a simple reason that has nothing to do with that, although is does provide us with a seemingly endless string of comical marketing schemes. It is simply because we are comprised of 75% former Insidious Rays members and 25% former Crack Babies Members. We took the 'ray' from the former and the '-bies' from the latter and voila... The Rabies. There are some truly awful bands out there with the same name though, so be careful.
As mentioned, we are a cover band... so far. Some of the songs we play are true classics that garner the respect they deserve, like "Synchronicity II" by The Police or "Who's Lovin' You" by Smokey Robinson. Others, however, garner respect they didn't get when they were 'popular?' by virtue of our performance of them, such as "Easy Lover" by Phil Collins and Phillip Bailey or "Hold the Line" by Toto. There is an enormous so called, 'cheese factor' in the music we play and it's intentional. It's purpose is to showcase the juxtaposition of masterful songwriting against some of the worst and most hilarious lyrics ever to be put to paper, let alone music. Attending a Rabies show will occasionally feel like you're listening to 99.9 The Hawk, except live... and with more variety. For those of you outside the range of The Hawk, it's the station in your neighborhood that plays "More Than a Feeling" or "Dust in the Wind" about twice an hour, (neither of which will ever be played by The Rabies). We also have a flair for the exotic as far as rock 'n' roll goes. For instance, there is no shortage of Devo tunes, none of which are "Whip It" and the relatively unknown "Jeepster" by T-Rex. So it's also a horizon broadening experience as well, for audience and band members alike.
Finally, to quote the Boss as a closing apropos of the essence of the band, "bring it home, oh oh oh, bring it home... yea - ah, bring it home... oh oh oh... Alright boys... keep it rockin' now..."
