About Me
Jeremy is one of Australia’s most versatile percussionists. His performing career crosses all musical genres from symphony orchestras to rock bands, avant guarde contemporary music to cabaret and musical theatre, his own solo projects to electronica and world music.Jeremy began playing ‘drums and things’ when he was 7 years old. He now holds Bachelor of Music (hons) and a Graduate Diploma in Orchestral Percussion from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he studied with Ian Cleworth, Richard Miller and Daryl Pratt. He has been the recipient of a number of scholarships and grants enabling him to undertake further study and attend festivals in London, Milan and throughout the USA, twice attending the prestigious Bang on a Can Summer Music Institute.With a strong commitment to contemporary music, Jeremy was a co-founder of the chamber ensemble AARK, promoting music of the 20th and 21st centuries, appearing as a soloist on a number of occasions. He is also a founding member of the instrumental band PROP, who have played at the Big Day Out, the Sydney Festival, The Studio, and many festivals throughout NSW, Victoria and Queensland. They have supported major international acts such as Tortoise, Sonic Youth and Stereolab, and can be heard on their release, Small Craft Rough Sea. Jeremy is also the percussionist for Australia’s only Frank Zappa tribute band, Petulant FrenzyAs a soloist, Jeremy has presented marimba recitals for Musica Viva, the New Music Network and 2MBS FM, and in 2002 he toured to Beijing as a special guest of the China National Symphony Orchestra. He has also worked on the high seas as a drummer on board the original ‘Love Boat’, the MV Pacific Princess. Jeremy is a casual percussionist with the Sydney Symphony and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra and has also performed with the Sydney Sinfonia, Sydney Philharmonia Orchestra, Australian Youth Orchestra, Coruscations, Ensemble 24, Sprung Percussion, Generator, Ensemble Offspring and has been the principal percussionist for the Sydney Opera House Babies Proms Orchestra since 2000.Jeremy was Associate Artist with Synergy Percussion for 2005.
