Dame Dewey Decimal

Keep your salvation in your pants...

About Me

So, although I don't believe in these things, I find myself dragged by my friends (kicking and screaming) into the twenty-first century. What the fuck? If Alexis can cave and get a cell phone, I can at least pretend that this could be fun. So, play gently with me.

My Interests

Mastering the Dewey Decimal system (but not Library of Congress 'cuz it's bollocks), drinking beer and sometimes doing shots as long as it's not tequila that I purchased myself since that's not lady-like, indie rock, trashy novels (and good ones more than occasionally as well), riding ponies (in my head until the city of Brooklyn nullifies the law stating that ponies can't live in the car-port in front of my house), dressing-up, going to parties, traveling to exotic environs on airplanes and not so exotic ones on Metro North or via the Golden Steed, (trying to) write things that won't make me want to die of abject humiliation, pretending that I still care about the future of conceptual practice when meeting old friends, still going to museums and laughing at the grown-ups with their funny audio tours and their equally funny conversations in the museum cafe which succinctly recycle everything the audio tour man told them, eating Mexican food and drinking crack-margaritas at El Rey del Sol on 14th Street since my dad has decided to sell my childhood home in San Diego and move to the wilds of Eastern Washington, still sadly sporadic yet infectious do-gooding, attempting to muster any enthusiasm for boring, wholly insignificant things like cataloging rules and collection development policies whilst trying to convince my professors that a desconstruction of provenance is an archival current issue, taking long naps in my gloriously green new bedroom, literally making an art out of procrastination, engaging in extended reveries about the open road, refurbishing my summer wardrobe, revelling in my obsession with plastic foot-gear, celebrating the birthday's of friends since everyone I know seems to be a Taurus, planning for a pleasantly debauched summer which will include my birthday celebration, an event we've decided to call, "Forever Young," (a mere two months away,) already taking contributions to get one of those blow-up jumpy things and a kiddie pool for my party, praying that the semester finishes without tears, unnecessary bloodshed or a broken heart.

I'd like to meet:

A real life fairy so that I can tell all the people who think I'm crazy to finally piss off! Ohhh and maybe Will Sheff but it's just 'cuz he's dreamy. And Tim Gunn too 'cuz I saw him walking on Wooster and became convinced that if we met we would totally be like BFFs forever.

Books:

This is impossible. I'm a freakin' librarian, man! I like the books--a lot!Nabokov, Coetzee, Perec, Faulkner, Robbe-Grillet, basically dead men and Emily Dickinson, Lyn Heijinian, Myung Mi Kim, the Howe sisters, Rachel Blau Duplessis, Anne Carson, John Ashbery. And of course my dead boyfriends Walter Benjamin and Roland Barthes. Not to mention kids books... let's just say I heart Cedric Diggory (ta Lex) and shit I'm reading Derrida again...why does this happen at the end of every semester regardless of the subject I happen to be studying at the time? Ohhh because I'm at heart a fatalist with an inherently dialectical personality...

Heroes:

Anne of Green Gables (but most definitely not Anne of Avonlea or all that other shite after she marries that sad-sack Gilbert Blythe, even as a ten year old you knew that was wrong), Scarlett O'Hara (a sister if there ever was one), and my sister (my real one who still believes in saving the world)
