THE MOST HOT UNDERGROUND SENSATION IN AMSTERDAM ---------------------------------------------- ABOUT THE MUSIC -------The music of Amsterdam based and formed band FILTERKICK, is one big crossingover between; alternative, pop, rock, new wave, punk, rap, soul and funk. FILTERKICK is a unique combination of art, craftmanship and professionalism. Lyrics are a reflection on todays politics. As FILTERKICK is an 100 % Amsterdam band, we cant leave out the softdrugs, prostitution, and mental state of mind, this place and we are in. This does not mean we are pimps on crack. It simply means, there is less hard drugs, low criminality, friendly hard working people with a strong opinion on European and foreign politics. ---------- CULTURAL STATEMENT -------------------- Being neither English nor American, it would be unfair to say our musical inspiration and heritage did not came from those countries in particulair. ? Language is culture they say ... hmmm .. did u know that almost any English language comes from Dutch and German. Did u know New York, was originally called New Amsterdam, builded by the dutch. Much of the todays New York 'slang' is bassicalliy dutch or a derivative.
This is not a advert about how cool we are. You are welcome to visit us any time, and make your own opinion ... My statement is this; Yes, we did not invent rock, rock and roll, soul and blues. But we learned how to do that now. As well as the Americans and the British finally learned to paint, .. right ??
The only thing that remains diferent, is the political and sociall environment that directly surrounds us. And that leeds back to why Amsterdam and our music are one. --------------------------- A BRIEF HISTORY --------------------------
Most good musicians started out on a verry young age. This is one of the reasons why they are good, right ? In most cases this is true, but you also need talent. Then again if you dont have talent you've had time enough to figure that out. We all start out with a passion. That becomes the drive. By the time your 16~18, money becomes an issue. You need a job, that means less time playing. Aha gigging !! And there is the catch 22. This means you are starting to get 'professional'. This is most of the time the oposite of that pure pasion.
Some dont care and become, what we call 'Mustang Sallies', revering to a all time favorite cover being played by cover bands. When you want to put creativity in to that kind of reportoire, is most likely to get fired. Than you are nothing. Your not a good 'Mustang', and your not a pasionate artist ..... In the silent hours we, FILTERKICK, met eachother jamming and and exploring the edges of art and what we knew was right. We started the 'Illegal Jam' And had secret underground jams in Amsterdam. I wouldn't say you would want to have been there ... It was more a reset to our basis ..... the passion. After 2 years we feel quite resettled. And we stuck our heads together. We dicided to make a make outwards. I am not saying we are going to conquer the world. That, in my eyes, can never be any mission. This is about music, and a group of people which are into that music. How big that group will be, is up to the people ------------------------------------------------------------
