DaKarpo is a fresh, feisty five-piece band, hailing from beautiful Byron Bay. With a sound described as “sweet, yet sinisterâ€, DaKarpo’s genre-bending repertoire leaves audiences energised and astonished.
A combination of several musical styles is smoothly woven together with the solid, driving drumming of Nathan Poetshcka, the funky, melodic double-bass & 5 string bass tones of Adam “Adzy†Wojeski, the striking six and twelve string acoustic guitars of Liam Blake, the powerful sax sounds of Aron St. Clair and the soaring, dynamic vocals of Celeste-ann Chapple. The band members’ passion for music is communicated through their ‘danceable’ original songs, which are inspired by artists as diverse as Jeff Buckley, the John Butler Trio, George, Michael Franti, Tool and The Mahavishnu Orchestra. This is a band that really loves music and enjoys sharing their influences with their audience.
Upon meeting in 2004 at the Northern Rivers Conservatorium in Lismore, where they were studying music performance, the three founding members of DaKarpo created a strong bond, both in music and friendship. Within a few months the band had written several hours’ worth of thoughtful and well-constructed songs. Then, they decided it was time to take their music to the people!
After three years of solid gigging in and around the Byron Bay area, DaKarpo has tightened and refined their sound. The band has played at a broad range of events including hotel gigs, private parties and small festivals. At a benefit gig, DaKarpo performed with ARIA-nominated songwriter Pete Murray and also supported The Cruel Sea and Jeff Lang at Bangalow Fatherhood Festival.
DaKarpo’s songs The Fridge and Blazé have been featured on Triple-J’s ‘Unearthed’, and The Fridge was used on the ABC on JTV (Triple J's TV program) in a segment about reconciliation. Their song Monsta and an original composition by Liam Blake are currently being used behind two clips by Hatchling Productions which have been entered into an online competition for the International Documentary Filmfestival in Amsterdam.
