the human metronome

About Me

Brian Crum (Drums & vocals)- Years of practice, constant jamming, and his metronome “in the pocket” style have gained Brian respect as one of the areas' most dependable, dynamic, and solid drummers. His evolving musical style includes everything from Rembeteka blues to bluegrass, country folk, punk, jazz, soul, r&b and rock & roll. (and much, much, more) Since moving to Athens, Ga. in Jan. 1980, Brian has provided the big pocket sound for many of the areas most original and dynamic bands, including: Satchel Page(1989), Relish(1991), The Disposibles (1993), Little Kat and the Hounds(1995), The Sweetwater Blues Band(Atlanta,2002), Bob Hay and the Jolly Beggars(2004), Ta Kavourakia(2005), The Jump'n Jukes(Atlanta,2004), the Dylan Blues Project(2007), with whom he also produced the independant release "Possum Hollow Road"(2007)(available at www.dylanbluesproject.com). Brian has also filled in and shared the stage with some of some of the areas' most respected bands and musicians, like: The Breeze Kings, Bill Sheffield, Antic Clay, Code Blue, The Squalls, The Chamelions, The Georgia Jooks, Eddie Tigner, Tommy Brown, sax player Donnie Turner, The Richie Mays Band, (former CDB guitarist)Tommy Crain, The Stooge Brothers, Patrick Vining, Seven7, and many, many more. And that doesnt include the hundreds of other bands and musicians in the Athens, Ga. area he played with while hosting open mics and other various open jams. His unique style incorporates many different types of drums(mostly vintage American made), unusual percussion instruments(including a variety of metal cans), and an assortment of sticks, including traditional wood sticks, brushes, mallets, "rods", or his favorite, the custom made "metal wands”. In 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003, Brian produced "Georgia's Calendar of Covered Bridges", a series of photographs of the remaining original covered bridges in Georgia. In 2001-2002, it was recognized by former President Jimmy Carter. He continues to do studio work, fill-in gigs, and is currently working on a solo project, as well as more photographic memorabilia.
