am a low key musician of Steel Drums or Steel Pans as called in the native island of Trinidad. When the oil abundant in the island was distributed the steel drums used for storing were cleverly used by the locals as the first and only new musical instrument originated in the western hemishpere in this century. Today the Steel Drums are worldly recognized as far as Japan and Europe for it's unique and spellbounding sound in orchestras as large as several hundred players in some cases. The art form has evolved into a very sophisticated vehicle to channel the intense musical originality of the local craftsmen and musicians. The Steel-Pan "bands" as they are called on the islands are widely and most famously known for the distinct flavour of the Carnival festivals from the original world renowned annual Trindad & Tobago Carnival Festival to the street festivals of Brooklyn, NY to Miami Florida. They world has carressed this ingenious invention as a sound to savour and have attempted to steal the steel from the originating island of Trinidad & Tobago by attempting to patent the instrument and adopt the sound effects by adding eletronic emphasizers. Up to this time I am a 15 year craftsman of the art of steel panists orchestration as a composer, arranger and tutor. I began as a teenager and have not put down my "sticks" since then. I have travelled to Canada, New York, Trinidad, Baltimore, West Virginia, and locally performed at Phillips Waterfront restaurants as well as other local venues. Every year the steel band I arrange music for in the DC Caribbean Culture Festival has gained and retained first place and high honors in the competitions. I aspire to share my skills and love for the artform by learning the high art of "tuning " these finely made instruments and by passing on the craft to my up-coming youth in my community here in the States and possibly back in the island of Trinidad & Tobago. Thanks for your interests in my Contribution. ccc Background By ModProfiles
