Root Soul Productions Inc. is a Chicago based company with the goal of creating great music with great lyrics that will transcend generations. Root Soul was born out of the love of music and writing of the founder, Tamara (Tammy) Harris. Originally called "Ruth's Soul Productions" after Tammy's Granny, the name was changed to "Root Soul Productions" because it was believed that the name would more adequately capture the spirit and meaning of what the company planned to create. One of the goals is to create great music rooted in the tradition of solid songwriting that everyone in the family can listen to from the two year old baby who can barely sing the words to the Grandpa sitting on his front porch enjoying a summer day.
Chicago is a Mecca of talent, yet most artists from Chicago must migrate to find success. Another goal of Root Soul Productions is to change the notion that an artist cannot be successful without leaving Chicago. Utilizing a vast talent pool in Chicago, Tammy's desire is to infuse the industry with the creativity and innovation that Chi-town has to offer.
The ultimate goal of Root Soul Productions is to expose the talent pool of Chi-Town and have the music industry flocking in droves to see what the commotion coming out of Chicago is all about. Reminiscent of the buzz created by Record Row and Chess Records in the 60's and 70's, Tammy aspires to once again make and keep Chicago as one of the top places to be to find talent. Root Soul Productions desires to be a place where artist can create, develop and express their voice and their style.
With this goal in mind, Tammy partnered with Raynard Balkcom (Devero) in 2002 to begin her first project. The two co-wrote "Only To You." Devero wrote the title track, "Can't Keep A Good Woman Down" and "First Things First." He also helped to arrange most of the other songs on the project. With his assitance Tammy learned a great deal about arranging a song. Later she teamed with the Producer of her first project, Don Gibson, who helped her grow even more. Tammy's true breakthrough, however, came with the current project, "Natural Vibe" and you'll soon hear how.
Root Soul Productions will not only be a musical production company. In the near future, Tammy plans to branch off into TV, Film, and the stage. Tammy has in the works a sitcom entitled, "Perfect Composition" that she plans to pitch in the near future for placement. As well, she is working on a feature film entitled "Can You Reach My Friend?" Tammy received her first taste of directing and editing with her first short film which was approximately eight minutes long entitled, "Don't Let The Green Grass Fool You." Lastly, you will see various stage productions coming your way as well.
