~Peck Allmond is a multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Brooklyn, NY. His main instuments are trumpet, flute, and tenor sax, and he doubles fluently on a long list of other brass and woodwinds including clarinet, bass clarinet, alto flute, piccolo, mellophone, peckhorn, euphonium, sousaphone, and soprano, alto, and baritone saxophones. He also plays the kalimba, a beautiful harplike thumb-piano related to the mbira, to which he brings an unusual degree of virtuosity. His band Kalimba Kollective came into being in early 2004 and is active on the NYC jazz/world-music scene, with many appearances at Zebulon, 55 Bar, The Stone, NY Fest of New Trumpet Music, Brooklyn Conservatory and elsewhere; it features his work on most of the above instruments, all in the context of his original compositions and interpretations of folk melodies from around the globe. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Peck has performed and/or recorded with Me'Shell NdegeOcello, Oliver Lake, Peter Apfelbaum, Don Cherry, Julius Hemphill, John Hicks, Rickie Lee Jones, Rufus Wainwright, Joan Osborn, Ray Lamontagne, Sean Lennon, Brazilian Girls, Will Lee, Randy Newman, Hem, Lenny Kravitz, and James Brown. His compositions were performed by the late jazz legend Jackie McLean in McLean's quintet. Peck's recordings as a leader are available for purchase at www.peckallmond.com. ~~~~~~~~~~All performance photos on this site taken by Kate Milford (
