About Me
Full name of Character: Jack Philip Bauer Reason, meaning or purpose behind the name: I don't need a reason, dammit. Nickname: Jack Reason for nickname: If anyone gives me a nickname they will get pistol whipped Gender: Male Occupation: Field Agent and Head of Field Ops. Social class: I make enough Age: 40 Race: White Place of Birth: Santa Monica, California Physical Apperance: I have dirty blonde hair and Blue eyes. My face is rugged and I do on occasion have a beard. I am 5'10 and am of muscular build. You have to be in my line of work. I have quite a few scars on my body from torture and the like. Personality: I have been described as a loose cannon and I do not like to follow the rules when I know I am right. I have quite a temper and it tends to flare when someone says any of the following : Nina, We have your daughter, One move and Audrey dies, I'm doing this for the good fo the country, etc. I am not team player and work better by myself. I am definitely not optimistic I see the grand picture, I'm a realist. I am an introvert, what I feel is no ones business except maybe Audrey's. My drives are doing what is best for the country. I'm pretty handy with a gun and my weakness is the people I care about and terrorists know it. I have a soft spot for helping people. Beliefs and Values: My beliefs could be described as Machiavellian in that I am a firm believer in the mantra, "the ends justify the means:" I believe obtaining a desired result is more important than how I obtain it, and I frequently perform controversial actions if I think they will achieve an important goal. My philosophy was perhaps best expressed after I shot and killed a witness in front of George Mason, then-CTU Special Agent in Charge. George expressed dismay at my extreme action, and I replied: "That's the problem with people like you, George. You want results, but you never want to get your hands dirty." Lying, torture, stealing, and even cold-blooded murder are all viable options to me, a stark contrast to the vast majority of fictional heroes. Comparisons with the very people I battle are inevitable. I amalso a master of interrogation. I often use extreme physical force or psychological stress to retrieve the information I need. At other times, I threaten the lives and/or well being of a terrorist’ family members. I amalso adept at handling being interrogated, as shown in Season 2, proving terrorist Ronnie Stark's point, "Everyone breaks, Jack, even you," to be incorrect. I have withstood knife carvings, electrocutions, and injections without confessing. During one torture-session I was accidentally put into cardiac arrest, but revived with emergency medications. I was soon portrayed as a character who could remain perceptive under pressure when, several minutes after my revival, I was able to escape with the help of a nearby doctor. I have routinely put my own life on the line, as well as the lives of those close to me, in order to serve the greater good. Notably, I was faced with a situation where a terrorist threatened to release a devastating biological weapon if I did not execute one of my superiors, Regional Director Ryan Chappelle. Despite efforts to locate the terrorist before the deadline, I was forced to execute Chappelle. I was told to extract a Chinese scientist named Lee Jong from the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles, who had vital information needed to stop an imminent terrorist strike. During the illegal raid, Lee was shot and needed immediate medical attention to stop him from dying. When I arrived at CTU, I learned that the doctor there was already working on Paul Raines, the estranged husband of Audrey Raines (My then girlfriend). Raines had been shot earlier trying to push me out of the way of a gunman. So that was my fault. Much to Audrey's horror, I drew my weapon and ordered the doctor to begin surgery on Lee. Raines went into cardiac arrest and died shortly afterward. I amrarely seen showing remorse for such actions until after the crisis has passed. I can't let my emotions get in the way of doing my job. This is largely due to my emotional suppression necessary to complete the task at hand. I have on occasion revealed my more vulnerable side, when I break down crying after the traumatic events of the day. hey! you would cry tooo!!! I am human!!! Following the death of Teri I lived a life that had little personal purpose. To Jack Bauer, there is no separation of his personal life and his duty. As I said to Chase Edmunds: "You cannot do this job and have a normal life at the same time." History: I was born to German-American parents in California. Having attended Ampleforth College, a Roman Catholic boarding school in the North Yorkshire, U.K, where I met my good friends Patrick Teague and Louis Lassus, I enrolled at UCLA, where I graduated with a bachelor's degree in English Literature. I went on to receive my master's degree in Criminology and Law from UC Berkeley. After completing my schooling, I worked as a Los Angeles Police Department SWAT team member, and in the U.S. Army's elite Delta Force. I also did fieldwork for the Central Intelligence Agency before being seconded to the Counter Terrorist Unit. While at CTU, I was the Team Leader for an action known as Operation Proteus and the Section Captain during the incident of the Hotel Los Angeles attack. I later uncovered evidence that three CTU agents, including my mentor Christopher Henderson, were taking bribes. I gained a reputation as a whistleblower, and lost favor with CTU hierarchy. I have characteristics marking him as a "flawed hero". I hold similarities to many Greek heroes, having a "tragic flaw" that dictates my rise to power and, inevitably, will dictate my downfall. My employment at CTU has given me many survival skills that have kept me alive, yet my tenure at CTU can be held liable for many, if not, all of mymisfortunes (losing my wife at the end of Season One, myaddiction to heroin during Season Three, the emotional "loss" of Audrey Raines, my love interest in Season Four, the lives of some of my closest friends, my job at CTU, and myown "death".)
