I've been in several bands over the years. I gave up the notion of being a rock star when I found that it brought out my inner prat. I keep him in check now by only performing the odd solo gig. I vastly prefer composing and recording to regular gigging. But I think fondly of the boisterous shows and free drinks, dislike the rigidity of a drum machine, and can't figure out how to play piano/guitar/melodica simultaneously. But I'll keep plugging away.
My 8-track and I are going to write and post some sonic candy for whomever might wander by to listen.
