About Me

Hi there. My name is Adam Getty. I'm a poet living in Hamilton, Canada. My main work is Reconciliation, published with Nightwood Editions in 2003. I received the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award and a Hamilton Literary Award, as well as being shortlisted for Ontario's Trillium Award for Poetry. Earlier this year I published Lyric and Elegy, a chapbook of newer poems with Biblioasis Editions. I wanted to open a my space page so people that wanted to contact me could. I plan to include a couple of poems here and use the blog for recording general ruminations on things I've recently read. To paraphrase the essayist Michel de Montaigne, you would be unreasonable to read it. But you're more than welcome.

Still Life

With pensive look the woman’s black-lined eyes consider
the screen of words before her, not knowing she
is seen. Perhaps this image will remain, her figure
become an urn of painted blackware, unseen
in any but the mind’s remembrance, the littoral
distillation of all the moments I dreamed
till her glance found mine. Recognition the name
of the joy that broke from her then, not love, the same
as water breaking from a virgin mother, a white
brace of clouds now emptied of all but new life.
