It seems unfair that I'm so awesome.

About Me

I'm a romanticist. This doesn't mean what you're probably thinking it does, but I'll take credit for it anyways.
I work on lyrics. This also doesn't mean what you're probably thinking, but as before I'll happily take credit for it.
I am a grad student, an avid filmgoer, a gay video gamer (gaymer?). I will order the weirdest-sounding thing on the menu if I've never tried it before. I wear glasses when I'm too lazy to put in contacts (on average, one day out of three). I grew up in the mountains in Colorado, so yes, I know how to ski.
I am a karaoke superstar. Feed me a shot of jaeger and I will sing the sweetest songs you ever done heard.
Tried writing a screenplay once. I suppose that because I've neither thrown it away nor finished it I'm still trying.
Fictional character I'd most like to date: Philip Marlowe
Anime character I'd most like to date: Sagara Sanosuke

My Interests

Reading, Moviegoing, Gaming, Music-listening-to, Jogging (or yogging, it might be a soft "J"), Drunken Boxing, Hot Man-On-Man Action

Movies:

Casablanca, Annie Hall, Grosse Pointe Blank, The Princess Bride, Sergio Leone, Classical Hollywood Melodrama: Stella Dallas, Imitation Of Life, Blonde Venus, Mildred Pierce (yeah, I know it's noir), Double Indemnity, The Lady Eve (I love you Barbara Stanwyck!), Gaslight, Early to late-80s Jackie Chan (although his recent stuff is a great return to form), any of the great choreographers: Busby Berkeley, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Bob Fosse, Lau Kar-Leung, Yuen Wo-Ping, Corey Yuen, Donnie Yen recently, Kill Bill (don't distinguish between 1 and 2; you know it's all one movie), Cronenberg, Lynch, Kurosawa, Miyazaki. Next on the list: Guy Maddin.

Books:

Thomas De Quincey, Oscar Wilde, H. P. Lovecraft, Raymond Chandler, William Gibson, Terry Pratchett, Thomas Pynchon (the few I've been able to finish - Damn you, Gravity's Rainbow!) For the time being I'm too busy reading to read anything for fun. When I have the chance again, I'll probably try: Clarissa, the Gormenghast trilogy, maybe either Proust or the Arabian Nights - I like the idea of something that takes a couple months to get through.

Heroes:

Jesus is a hero of mine. Not for the crazy beliefs, I just think he's a really talented carpenter and you gotta respect craftsmanship.

I probably shouldn't still be awake.

Biggest test of my life the day after tomorrow. Friday, depending on whether I've passed, I start writing either a dissertation or a resume. Wish me luck, nonexistent reader.

Catty comments from Romantic writers
