Casablanca, Annie Hall, Grosse Pointe Blank, The Princess Bride, Sergio Leone, Classical Hollywood Melodrama: Stella Dallas, Imitation Of Life, Blonde Venus, Mildred Pierce (yeah, I know it's noir), Double Indemnity, The Lady Eve (I love you Barbara Stanwyck!), Gaslight, Early to late-80s Jackie Chan (although his recent stuff is a great return to form), any of the great choreographers: Busby Berkeley, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Bob Fosse, Lau Kar-Leung, Yuen Wo-Ping, Corey Yuen, Donnie Yen recently, Kill Bill (don't distinguish between 1 and 2; you know it's all one movie), Cronenberg, Lynch, Kurosawa, Miyazaki. Next on the list: Guy Maddin.
Thomas De Quincey, Oscar Wilde, H. P. Lovecraft, Raymond Chandler, William Gibson, Terry Pratchett, Thomas Pynchon (the few I've been able to finish - Damn you, Gravity's Rainbow!) For the time being I'm too busy reading to read anything for fun. When I have the chance again, I'll probably try: Clarissa, the Gormenghast trilogy, maybe either Proust or the Arabian Nights - I like the idea of something that takes a couple months to get through.
Jesus is a hero of mine. Not for the crazy beliefs, I just think he's a really talented carpenter and you gotta respect craftsmanship.
