About Me

Josh has been destined to be a musician since before he was conceived. His parents, both musically talented, could always carry a tune and could groove. Dad Kenny was a trap drummer early in life, then moved on to Latin percussion, in which he still dabbles. Josh's mom Miriam took piano lessons as a young girl, and always kept up her "chops." The family moved house quite a few times during Josh's formative years, always singing harmonies together while on the road. After a few years of air drumming, Josh finally received his first drum kit when he was nine. "I walked home from fourth grade, into the house, and saw a set of drums in the living room...", says Josh. "My dad had took off from work that day and brought home a drum kit for me... He knew..."
Josh's resumé includes five years as drummer for Aleka's Attic, the band he formed with the late actor River Phoenix. With the desire to get his music out to the world, the band was River's idea, and after meeting Chris Blackwell backstage at a U2 concert and subsequently signing a development deal with Island Records, he first called Josh, having been connected through family, who helped form the rest of the band with River.
A few years later was when he finally earned his dream kit; after researching (and playing) many different brands, he chose the dark blue DW kit - the same one he plays today. During that time he also auditioned for Lenny Kravitz, when he got two callbacks and was the only other option to be the drummer for Lenny when Lenny chose Cindy Blackman, who would go on to play in his band for over a decade.
Josh has also worked with many other musicians and bands. Among those are world-renowned upright bassist Edgar Meyer; producer, guitarist, and songwriter T-Bone Burnett; Jerry Scheff, bassist for both Elvis Costello and Elvis Presley; and Flea, bassist with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Josh has shared the stage with such acts as the B52’s, the Indigo Girls, Rob Thomas and Paul Doucette (Matchbox 20), Sister Hazel, George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars, Ben Harper, the Spin Doctors, Jewel, Dee-Lite, the Psychedelic Furs, Concrete Blonde, The Greg Allman Blues Band, Johnny Winter, and more.
Josh has been credited as engineer, producer, guitarist, bassist, singer, arranger, and co-writer, in addition to his main instrument, "trap" drums.
Having been a working musician on Maui since 1997, Josh drums with many different bands, currently mostly on Maui, HI, in the corporate and nightclub circuits. He is featured on several releases; of the most recent are "It's Killing Me" by the Howard Ahia Band, Jamallad's "Global Citizen", HuDost's "Trapeze", and Vince Esquire's upcoming release, which is still in production.
