Born in Iran and raised in the US, Amir grew up in a
time when grunge topped the charts and plaid was in
fashion. Heavily influenced by such artists as Layne Staley,
Jerry Cantrell, and Kurt Cobain, he found early on that most
music was too genre based and generic. His fondness of music
began at a young age, picking up instruments such as the
guitar and bass. In the mid 90's he was introduced to house music
through a friend and it immediately peaked his interest. Always
looking for something with an edge that sounded different
he found his taste to be in tune with the more techno based
house music than anything else. Concurrently, Amir developed a
huge taste for computers and programming. Over the years
computer programming became second nature to him and he
abruptly came to the realization that his two passions were
largely intertwined.
He started jumping into the deep end by vigorously learning many
DAWs along with synth programming. At the same time his skills
were honed by DJing around his hometown of Atlanta and in his first
year landing residencies at some of the biggest clubs in town. In
keeping with his commitment of pushing the limits of a DJ through
innovation and in some regards to prevent monotony behind the decks,
he managed to merge his live acts with his studio through Ableton Live.
The controversial decision worked in his favor landing him greater
amounts of club gigs and interest, Amir edited tracks and threw in his
own loops over his live performances which brought his sets that unique
quality he was after. In the past year he has completed a full studio mix
cd and signed with some very large labels in Europe. Amir Abbasi
believes that his innovations and breakthroughs will set a benchmark for future DJs and producers.
