That’s when I picked up the guitar and said, If no one wants to help me, I‘ll learn to play myself and come up with my own shows.“ she laughs, “ I would call bars and restaurants and ask if I could play there, most venues wouldn’t ask my age. So I would get away with it.” At 18, she now teeters daringly between the life of a hometown recording artist and that of a Nashville legitimacy.In performance, Rickiejoleen has a refreshing voice that oozes of talent with a slight twang and vibrato to envy. She takes to the stage with confidence, and spunk. Often arching her back with the guitar held high in the air. Try to mesh country, blues and rock, and you’ll have just and inkling of this young ladies panache.“If you were to totally take the music out of a live performance and watch my show with no sound, you’d think it was rock,” Rickiejoleen says. “You would have no clue I was singing country until you flipped on the volume.”The artist’s style and youth are alluring - you may be tempted to say she’s just a kid, but self managing her career from takeoff is no easy task. Unlike her peers (there’s no teenage prissiness here), she spends her days in and out of various appointments, and scheduling performances. On weekends you won’t find her strolling the malls or watching the latest movie. She has been working the local music scene for the past 8 years and now has an impressive list of venues that she performs at. “Although I have given up much of my childhood, I wouldn’t change a thing.” says Rickiejoleen, “I have seen and accomplished more than some people only dream of.
