Clarice Martins is a Brazilian dancer, born in São Paulo (1976), graduated 1994 in Classic Ballet Technique by "Escola Municipal de Bailados" of São Paulo and also attended the eighth year at the the Royal Academy of Dancing in 1998. Afterwards studied Martha Graham, Pilates, Improvisation, Contact, Fosse and Contemporary dance.
Her first pieces as a contemporary dancer were with the choreographies “Laços com Clarice†and “Pergunta sem Resposta†, both based in the literature of Clarice Lispector, choreographed and directed by Miriam Druwe.
She lived and worked in Osaka-Japan (1998). There she took part in the musical “Brasil Nativoâ€, where she performed several brazilian rythms and also improved her techniques.
Clarice has acquired vast experience in the Musical Theater, having acted in some of the greatest successes of Broadway such as: "Here comes the Deluge", "Beauty and the Beast (silly girl)" and "Chicago" (swing & Roxie..s cover).
Worked as a dancer at the “Ballet Teatro Emproart Ciaâ€, “Fato Cia de Dança†and her last job in Brazil – São Paulo as a contemporary dancer and Choreographic Assistant was “Cia.dança@cena†with the pieces: “...Still we sit†and “Macabeaâ€, directed by Raimundo Costa.
Clarice taught ballet & contemporary in many schools throughout São Paulo and Vienna.
Choreographed and prepared actors for the plays: “Soltando o verbo†and “O Alienista†(Grupo Safra), “Dom Quixote de La Mancha†(Febem Arte), directed by Valéria Dipietro and “Ofélia em Off †directed by Luciana Barone.
Studied vocal technique with Vera do Canto e Melo and Gisele Garbe.
Took part as a singer in the brazilian vocal group “Oitava na Peneira†also performing as backing vocal in some different projects and at the recordings of the CD “Meu fim de tarde é assim...†by Marcelo Amazonas.
Currently living in Vienna since 2007, she took workshops at Impulstanz Festival, Limon technique with Risa Steimberg and Moviment Flush with Ismael Ivo. Choreographed the opening shows for Alegre Correa at Porgy & Bess and Lili Araujo at Spittelberg Theater, danced for the Buena Vista Social Club at Hangar7 in Salzburg, and participated with Cie. Willi Dorner in the project "bodies in urban spaces", Vienna 2007 and DIWAN Festival regionale – Bad Gleichenberg 2008.. Clarice also works as a dancer and teacher for BigsMile Place, a dance School and an events Company in Vienna.
