My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.1979records.com
Band Members: Currently representing Steve Kopandy, Tim Harris, Paperadio, Tellina Lee, Hide and Spy and James Hariman
Influences: Released Separately, 'Based On' and 'A true Dream' make up Steve Kopandy's debut double album. Inspired by world travels and living in Europe, this emotive journey through living, loving and leaving comes with a photographic journey. So far it's received great reviews in Australia and the USA. Founded in piano and guitar song writing, the music is embellished with lush synths, guitars, loops and harmonies. Steve covers the ground of stripped back piano balladeer, Ryan Adams'esque, in Songs like 'Paris in the Winter' and 'Corona and Lime', right through to the wide layered production that Simply Red or Tears for Fears taught in the 80's, in songs like 'Amsterdam'.'Starlight Avenue,' the debut album by Tim Harris was released in May 2007 by 1979 Records. As a singer-songwriter, Harris wanted a big sound on the album. "I grew up listening to ELO and Supertramp and loved the way that these bands layered up their songs." Harris spent the early part of 2006 writing the songs for the record. "I'd stay up late at night banging around on the piano and once the songs had been written I wanted to find a producer who had a similar musical background." Producer David Carr (Taxiride, Antiskeptic and Paperadio) agreed to take on the project. Harris and Carr then set out to try something a bit different. "We decided we wanted to use all analogue effects and steer clear of the digital stuff. David was great in finding sounds I really liked. He'd then put them through all the old analogue effects units he's collected over the years." The result is a sound that is surprising for a singer-songwriter - a layered album with some big sounds, both modern and past.
Sounds Like: Sufjan Stevens, Ray LaMontagne, Genesis, Rodger Hodgson, Air, Cyndi Lauper, ELO, supertramp, Ryan Adams, Nick Cave, Coldplay, Mister mister, Toto, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears.
