I'm Greg, i'm currently reading Philosophy and Biblical Studies at Sheffield uni, and i'm quite obsessed with music.
I play guitar, sax, bass, drums and dabble in piano, and am the melody centre of a jazz-funk-blues trio called The Will Hayes Trio . I also have a rather on/off solo project .
My favourite genres are jazz: bebop/hard bop/vocal/swing/big band/fusion/latin/modal/cool/acid/free/ragtime (John Coltrane/Miles Davis/Frank Sinatra/The Duke Ellington/Glenn Miller Orchestra/Herbie Hancock/Stan Getz/Bill Evans/The Dave Brubeck Quartet/The Brand New Heavies/Ornette Coleman/Al Jolson), classical (Bach), indie (Bloc Party), hard rock (Alter Bridge), metal (Metallica), classic rock (Led Zeppelin), rock and roll (Chuck Berry), progressive rock/metal (Focus/Tool), math rock (Minnaars), "punk" rock (Billy Talent), acoustic (Joshua Radin), blues (Robert Johnson), funk (Sly and the Family Stone), ska (The Cat Empire), r&b/soul (Earth, Wind and Fire), hip hop (Public Enemy), electronica (Ratatat), trance (Tiësto), and drum n bass (Andy C). Not a huge fan of rap, country or folk, but occasionally dip a toe in to keep my listening as varied as possible.
I like to go to gigs, a lot, and clubs when there aren't any good gigs so i can still dance to some tunes.
Alcohol is both good and bad, but generally good. Bars are fun, and pool is even more fun. A pint of guinness or hobgoblin starts a night off well, with a standard double jd, neat, on ice, to finish. Greasy cheeseburger (preferably made by Ekram's own fair hand) on the walk/stumble home is essential.
I like TV shows that make me laugh. A bit of football from time to time helps keep me happy too.
I support Charlton Athletic FC, and am looking forward to League One next season... I "play" for Jesus Christ United - we don't need a goalkeeper, since Jesus saves.....
I like to make jokes which basically nobody else understand or find funny, but keep me amused.
My friends mean everything to me, even if i'm pretty shit at keeping any form of regular communication with them.
I've started a blog, cos that's what all the myspace kids seem to being doing these days, which, if you really want to sample the crap which swirls around inside my head, can be viewed here .
Say hi.
