I made this site to connect with other families dealing with pediatric cancer and/or wagr syndrome.
And 500+ friends later, it's working=)
Childhood cancer statistics:
- One in 330 children will develop cancer
before the age of 20.
- On average, 46 children are diagnosed
with cancer every day in the United States.
- Childhood cancers have no known causes;
they are random.
When that one child in 330 is yours, your heart breaks. Your life gets turned upside down. Your priorities are quickly realized.
My daughter, Aydin was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor when she was 16 months old. She was born with WAGR syndrome and had 14 months of observation anticipating the possibility that she could develop cancer.
But, I was still in disbelief and sock when I found out.
That moment is always fresh in my mind.
One of the hardest things a person can do is give up
control and to surrender to hope and faith.
I can't explain how bittersweet it was
to allow a toxic drug to save my daughter's life.
Fortunatly for us, Aydin's chemo and surgery worked.
She is currently in remission and will be cancer free in August of 2009.
We are blessed.
