About Me

A clearer picture: I am very outgoing and independent. I like to be contrary just for the hell of it. I refuse to conform to anything, whether it be fashion, educational bureaucracies and institutional protocols, or gender roles expected of women.
Some of the greatest compliments I think I have ever received:
"You're an exhilarating breath of fresh air."
"You are beautiful and sexy. You just exude sex."
"You're irresistible. You grab all the attention when you walk into a room."
And once, in a poem, a man told me he didn't want to look less in my eyes.
I love to be acknowledged for my brilliance, and I love interacting with people who are just as unconventional as I am. I don't hold grudges, and I am a seeker of truth. Though i am strong willed, I am honest enough to change my opinion or acknowledge when I have made a mistake ... if enough evidence is brought to light. :)
I am logical and lucid. And sometimes, I feel like I live in a world of ideas. A friend once told me that though my writing is eloquent and flawless, there is not enough emotion in it. Which is funny, considering that in times of crisis, I am nothing but emotional.
I love exotic flowers. To me, roses are boring. Not only for what they represent, but because they do not have enough "ooooomphhh." LOL. I love the elegance and purity of lilies. They are larger than most flowers, yet they carry themselves with simple grace. And they smell heavenly. I also love the smell of freesia. Sweet, yet somewhat biting. Kind of like me. :)~ Flowers remind me of the mystical and awesome power of nature. Sometimes I feel like I am part of some other worldly realm, and I can get lost just staring at them. I also love the look and smell of honeysuckle, orchids, and hibiscus. I love sunflowers because they make me happy.
I now wear bright hues in make-up and clothing because one of my best friends decided to pull out the Victoria's Secret catalogue and point out that the brighter colors were put on the exotic women. :)~
My latest crazes are MAC make-up, anything with polka dots, electric blue, and lime green. :)~
I am a lover of penguins, all shapes and sizes, stuffed, animated, live etc. (Peri says hi.)

I'm obsessed with tall, dark, and handsome boys. If you do not fit this description, you need not apply. (J/K)
I love literature, laughing, good 80s music (oh wait.... it's all good!)... and creme brulee. I love dancing in front of the mirror and dancing for my men. I love every student I teach [even the clowns and chameleons (did you get that reference? good.. keep reading...)]
I'm into politics, ridding the world of illiteracy, cigarettes, bigots, and racists (a life-time crusade), hanging with friends, a good game of Boggle or Scrabble, writing my heart out in poetry... and being inspired by movies and beautiful lyrics.

You Are An Orange Girl
You live in the fast lane. You love action, risk, and competition.
You're spontaneous, enthusiastic, and persuasive.
But you're also easily bored - and love to rebel against structures.
You resent rules ... as well as people's attempts to control you! What Color Girl Are You?
Your Scent is Lemon
Vivacious, tangy, and lively
You are one gigantic ball of energy! What's Your Girl Smell?

My Interests

Gosh.. I thought I covered this...

educating; talking; dancing; laughing; reading; writing poetry; book clubs; collecting quotes; playing pool, chess, Boggle, Scrabble (and plenty more), movies; dancing... If you need more... see above.

This is one of my favorite poems of all time:

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

5) My Top 5 Celeb Lusts: Christian Bale, Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery (no matter what age), Josh Lucas, and Jon Moss. (Hey, why does Boy George get to have all the fun? and if he doesn't count, I'll trade him for another Brit... Colin Firth!!!!!!!!!)
6) Anyone who bullied me in elementary school/junior high...
7) Anyone I bullied in elementary school/junior high...

Music:

SONGS THAT MAKE ME FEEL GOOD

Movies:

I love movies! Again there is not enough room here, so I'll make a top 10 list.
1) The Fifth Element (As a kid, I used to dream of flying cars... and this movie cracks me up!)
2.) Pride and Prejudice - the A&E version. Colin Firth... :)
3.) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. (This movie completely blows my mind away.)
4.) Good Will Hunting (Everyone should love someone the way Robin Williams loves his wife in this movie. How do you like them apples?)
5.) Bridget Jones's Diary. [Two men fighting over one woman? You do the math... And here's Colin Firth.... again... :)]
6.) Pirates of the Caribbean (What a woman's wet dream really looks like... And besides I was a Johnny Depp fan since 21 Jumpstreet...)
7.) Lagaan. (Bollywood at its best...)
8.) The Incredibles (You know me... I had to throw an animated film in there.)
9.) Thomas Crown Affair (This movie is way too hot. Yummy Pierce!)
10.) Velvet Goldmine. (Thanks, Rob! Bring back a glitter studded rock and roll era!)
11.) Guys and Dolls. (One of the most ingenious plots ever! :) Okay, so I cheated...)

Television:

I don't have time for T.V. I'm now a fan of ABC.com's full episode player: Dancing with the Stars, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Samantha Who?, Ugly Betty, Women's Murder Club...They took my Gilmore Girls off the air... :(

Books:

There's not enough room on this thing. I read way too much. I'll just list my top ten books of all time.
1.) The Lorax - Dr. Suess
2.) The Phantom Tollbooth - Norton Juster
3.) The Little Prince - Antoine de St. Exupéry
4.) Freak the Mighty - Rodman Philbrick
5.) The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini
6.) Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien
7.) Harry Potter - J.K. Rowling
8.) North and South - John Jakes
9.) The Autobiography of Boy George
10.) Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
I am a lover of mythology and legend, of tradition and folklore; of historical fiction; of true crime; of fantasy; and of fiction that shows us the redeeming power of the human spirit.

Heroes:

Aisha; Vip (when he's not being a prick); all of my old teachers; Ching (and anyone else who has ever written a book); all of my students (they are our future); Abraham Lincoln; MLK; poets; dreamers; people who want to change the world; all of my fellow teachers; and everyone who loves what they do.
