Hi…i..m Kwan. I..m 31 and i was a kid i used to work in my summer vacations so i could get enough money to buy turntables and a mixer. That eventually happened and i started to mix mostly rock records and after a while all the records i could get my hands on. I got really involved with Hip-Hop culture in the early 90..s and started scratchin.. in 1998, influenced by people like DJ Cruzfader, DJ Nelassassin or DJ 30 Paus, portuguese dj..s/turntablists from Lisbon and i..ve been doing it since.
In 1999/2000, when i was still a radio dj and music critic, i joined up with mc..s Ridiculo, Tranquilo and Tony and we formed an hip-hop band called Mundo Complexo. We recorded our first record, “Acredites ou Não”, in 2003, we usually play with a live band and in May 2007 we released the second one, “Estamos Juntos”. I..ve been involved in several other portuguese music projects/crews in the past like Arkham Hi-Fi(with Budah&Jaws T), PitchZeroSete(with DJ Cruzfader) or The Rhythm Conspiracy(with DJ Nelassassin).
In more recent times i played live with Tranquilo, promoting his solo album “De Consciência Tranquila”, in wich i..m responsible for the cuts, i..m also part of The Good Vibes Band, the support band for Melo D(Hip-Hop/Soul/R&B/Afro artist), where i scratch and sing some backup vocals, and i formed a crew with DJ Ride in AUG2006 called The Fader Conspiracy- we spin records together, do live acts using turntables and a loopstation, and won the Show Category in IDA/ITF Portugal 2006 competition and in December 2007, in Poland,we won 3rd PLACE IN THE IDA/ITF WORLD FINALS-SHOW CATEGORY. I also recorded some cuts for the records of some other artists like Puzzle or Manifestos. More recently i embraced a new project with some brazilian musicians called Mylene Pires e os Saudosos da Favela, in wich i add my scratch to bossa nova/samba classics using it as a true instrument.
Besides from the turntable, i also play acoustic guitar for some years now, i play the drums once in a while and recently started to write songs. My plans for the future are to keep making records and playing live with Mundo Complexo, promoting our last album, playing with Melo D and continue to spread The Fader Conspiracy with my bro Ride, keep battling, organizing turntablism events, to record/produce a scratch record, making my own battle record, keep writing some songs&music and eventually to start producing some wicked beats!
