Benevolence was composed in 2003, and was performed by the EWU percussion ensemble during my senior recital. The soloists are Marty Zyskowski on tin-cans, and Adam Benham on drum set. Early in the rehearsal process the ledgendary conguero Mongo Santamaria passed away. He is one of my favorite players, and out of love and respect I dedicated this work to him. Habakkuk's Lament, is a transcription of a piece originally for Baritone-Voice, Bassoon, Bass Clarinet, and Cello. The original text was taken from the last few lines of the book of Habakkuk in the Old Testament. I really like the original version but the only recording I have is in mono and sounds really bad. This arrangement was also performed at my senior recital, the performers are Thomas Brown-alto sax, and Casey Wilkenson-piano. Israelian Fantasy is from a work for an african drum ensemble, I tracked it all myself and put an electronic effect on the top??? This is the first piece I successfully composed and performed at EWU, the live performance was much different and was led by a master drummer. The electronic sound on the shaker was put in much later on the recorded version, both versions are available. Macabre Mvt. 1 is the first movement of a 2 movement piece for cello, percussion and flute. Lareesa Tompkins-cello, Christopher Wilson-percussion, and Liesel Ewer on flute. I have a couple of different recordings, with the flute at different octaves during some parts. This piece was also done during my undergraduate years and was performed the senior recital.
