? was formed in the early winter of 2001 by Casey Carolan and Jake Wisienewski. Jake taking the mic with over powering vocals and playing sludgy riffs on guitar, they were soon to become something great. For a couple months it was just Casey and Jake getting on the same page as eachother. After 2 months of solid jamming they started writing songs and Jake's brother Eric decided he would play some lead in the band, and would bring along his long time friend, James Curtis, who played bass for years before.Casey and Jake felt pretty good about how the band was coming and how they were progressing. Jake later on was diagnosed with a form of throat cancer which threw him into a bind of not being able to sing, or even play guitar.. Casey decided that vocals and some guitar were much more important than drums so he took up vocals until Jake could recover and come back. A couple months went on and Jake was getting more sick and passed away from oropharyngeal cancer. Afterwards his brother Eric comitted suicide, and James soon followed. That left Casey being back where he started from...A couple years later in 2003 Casey was still in search of a band, trying to find the right people. He lost his brother on January 7th of 2003 to Ewing's Sarcoma cancer, which motivated Casey of getting his band together and writing about the truth, reality, and the world outside of your back yard. Casey went on for years. After writing music for his band of one, until late 2005, when he met a guitar player by the name of Tim Passage. Casey and Tim didn't hit it off right off the bat but it got them to see what they both were made of. In mid spring of 2006 Tim decided to join Casey in his quest for music..Casey's goal, now that he had a band coming along was to have a Rock/Grunge/Alternative sound to the music. Jamming for hours on end for a crowd of one in Tim's garage, for a majority of the time, they came up with a great deal of songs. But the band was still lacking a bass player and a drummer. Luckily enough a long time friend of Tim's, Jason Winchell, decided to pick up the bass and fill in the part. Though Jason had no experience with the bass guitar, he was more than ready to learn. The band began to roll out with a fresh, unique sound. In November of 2006 Tim moved away to Wisconsin with his girlfriend leaving Jason and Casey in a struggle..As the winter came Jason and Casey spent alot of time rocking out giving Jason alot of time to become familiar with the bass. Jason felt that after picking up the bass and seeing what he could do, it was time to start recording. Despite working out in sub zero temperatures, they still came out with the songs and most of all, the Truth. By the end of winter, beginning of spring, Casey bumped into an old, long time friend of his, Stefan Bickham, whom at that time had a band of his own kicking. Casey and Stefan began to get reaquainted, and catch up, which led to Stefan becoming the drummer of ?. Casey at that point felt very confident with the band and where it was going, constantly playing shows and recording was a big boost in their confidence. In late 2007, Stefan decided to leave ? for musical difference's, which Casey and Jason both thought would slow them down. To their suprise, Stefan decided to rejoin the band. They feel that they have a sound that needs to be heard and reckoned with.
