About Me

The UCLA Contemporary Jazz Large Ensemble (LE), under the direction of Kenny Burrell and James Newton, and student director Nick DePinna, is committed to the performance of new improvisational music. Since the Fall of 2006, the 15 to 21-piece group has premiered over thirty-eight pieces of music by fifteen different composers, twenty-eight of which were original works composed for the ensemble. Songs on this site: "Fanfare," by Nick DePinna and featuring Max Hembd on piccolo trumpet, "Le Overture del Suolo," by Hitomi Oba, excerpts from "Westerlies," by Max Kaplan, and "Asceria," by Nick DePinna.
