Click here to make your own!Ving Tsun Kung Fu, commonly known as Wing Chun, is a system of Chinese martial arts known for its efficiency and economy of motion. It was developed in China approximately 300 years ago by the Shaolin nun, Ng Mui. Using her expertise in Shaolin Kung Fu, she combined the best techniques available and streamlined them into a highly efficient new system of kung fu. Unfortunately, China was at that time in a state of political turmoil. The Manchu government destroyed the Shaolin Temple in fear that it was a center of rebellion. Ng Mui escaped and fled to the southern province of Kwantung, where she met her first student, a young woman named Yim Ving Tsun. It was in her honor Ng Mui named her system of kung fu Ving Tsun which translates as beautiful springtime. This new system of kung fu was kept a well guarded secret. It was passed down only to a few dedicated disciples, from generation to generation. Its line of succession was eventually passed to Yip Man, who is considered the Grand Master of modern Ving Tsun. In 1949, Yip Man brought the style out of Fatshan, China to Hong Kong and eventually, through his disciples, to the rest of the world. Ving Tsun Kung Fu was developed by a female monk to deal with the great physical power of the martial arts systems that existed. Ng Mui developed a system which uses the most economic movements to achieve maximum results. She created a simple, results-oriented system that has become known for its efficiency and effectiveness.I became interested in the martial arts in the early 80's watching Kung Fu Action Theater on Saturday Mornings. Began looking in to styles that "fit" me while in college around 1997. Got serious about wing chun kung fu in 1997 and began learning Dec. 2000 when I found me teahwer and school at Moy Yat Ving Tsun Kung Fu @ the American Kung Fu Academy in Richmond, Virginia.I am a direct Student of Moy Yee Tung, GrandStudent of Moy Tung, and Great Grand Student of SiTaiGung Moy Yat.
