About Me

"Everybody and they moms raps now. I swear if another rapper tries to sell me their cd, Ima break it in they face.". (like Eddie Murphy in Coming to America, "In Da Face" (lol) Those were the exact words GOLDIE told me last year, so why is he rapping now? His answer, "I don't know, it seems like something or someone is tellin me to do so and that voice won't shut-up" LOL. The other day I sat down with the 25 year old rapper/ceo, for a one on one interview which I am proud to say opened my eyes for the very first time. I see your album's entiled 'It's About That Time', when is that time? Is that time now? Is it YOUR time? Can we get a release date on this time?. "I'll answer your question this way, it will be released All In Due Time. (cute) Well I hope this interview won't be a waist of MY time, how about that. (LOL) "Patience my dear. "The one thing about time, is that time waits for no one. Man or woman. We don't control it, can't control it. All we can do is move with it, and let the chips fall where they may. Everyone wants things to happen right then and there. Sorry to say, things dont work like that. For those reading this, don't be alarmed, GOLDIE and I kno each other, we usually don't see eye to eye on any subject matter but do respect each others opinion. I constantly have to tell him about his smart-ass mouth. About how he's too cocky and super conceided. No need to worry, GOLDIE gave me permission to express my personal opinion throughout this entire interview, and thats exactly what I plan to do. As he states it, "It lets my audience see me as GOLDIE the person, not some stranger slash no name rapper pleading for someones attention. (I personally added the no name rapper part... LOL). "Plus they get some incite on exactly how far I've come. "Because my dream was a lil longer than 8 miles/ more like 8 kilometers/ this kid's spittin like the lama is and you'll be rewinding this/... opening bars from the song "It's So". "That song might make the album, who knows? (chuckle) Ok ok ok i see you have a little bit of talent. (LOL) Soooooo why don't you give me a brief history, matter of fact like the movie Brown Sugar, when did you fall in love with hip hop? "Lets see, lets see, lets see, lets see. The Sugarhill Gang came out in the early 80's right?, which was around the same time I was born. Ima 80's baby!" (GOLDIE gives a quick shout out to the air for no apparent reason). "I guess my mommy was out clubbin when she was pregnant with me, because hip hop runs throughout my body". "It's what pumps my blood, makes me move." But when did you actually have the thought of being a rapper? "I guess it began when the Fresh Prince of Bel Air aired." The theme music was the first rap I ever learned." "In west philadelphia born and raised on the playground is where I spent most of my days (chuckle). Me and every other boy wanted to be willy from philly." Hold on GOLDIE, back in the day you told me you didnt like the spotlight, you liked playing the background. "Exactly! thats what makes it even crazier, because now not only am I in the spotlight but i feel comfortable being in it. People made me feel at ease after they heard me rap. Saying I have 'IT' whatever it is, gave me the confidence i needed to follow my dream. See at first I was a dj. I use to go by the name Dj 4real." Oh really I didnt know that, so how did that go? "You know, I did the regular dj things, dj'd parties, talent shows, made mixtapes screaming my name over the music like dj clue use to do. That's why I have my nephew djing my mixtapes now, he's only 8." Whats his name? "DJ Double O". How cute. Ok ok enough with the past what about the present. What makes you so special? What makes you so deserving of our time/ energy and especially our money? At this point of the interview things take an unexpected twist. Why you ask? Here's why. I've known GOLDIE for a while now, and have come accustomed to his quick lipped, side of his neck talkin, pimp slash playa line of communication. But after I asked that last question, "What makes you so derserving... it seemed as if he morphed into someone else. This must be Art instead of GOLDIE. After hearing his answer, which I will get to in a lil bit, I no longer see him as I once did. He seems deeper, realer, inciteful, intellegent, spiritual and a whole lot more adjectives I can't think of right now. Actually I shouldn't say this but after hearing his answer Im finding him extremely attractive. I already thought he was cute, but now lets just say im thinkin of asking him out. But we'll keep that between me and you. (LOL) Instead of blurtin out the first thing that came to his mind GOLDIE took his time (five seconds to be exact). One mississippi, Two mississippi, Three mississippi, Four mississippi, Five. Then Bang! just like a starter pistol for a 400 meter relay, GOLDIE said something I will never forget. This is what he said word for word ....."Hmmmmmmm lemme see, I mean honestly what makes any of us deserving? I mean think about it." We all have these dreams of becoming kings and queens, but most of em are usually for material things, hey that just rhymed, I should put that in a song (laughing) But no seriously, I took my dream and made it reality. I woke up one night out of a sound sleep and said my dream out loud. Im not even sure if i was sleeping, because usually my dreams keep me up at night. But what i was thinking/dreaming/tossing and turning in my bed over, turned into a prayer. Yep thats right, contrary to what you may think of me, I have a personal relationship with the big homie. Now usually my prayers are on my knees with my eyes closed, but this go round, lets just say I was wide-eyed and standing. I felt like I had to get up. It must've been that spirit in me my mommy always talks about. You know the one you see running through the church but never seems to run through you. Im not ashamed to say this but during this conversation with the big homie, tears began to flow uncontrollably. That's what usually happens when I speak from the heart. You'd be surprised how many songs/verses were written while I was crying. But Shhhhh thats a secret (chuckle). Anywho back to what I was saying. It seemed like he(GOD) was right there in the room with me. So I laid it out for him, tears and all, as sincere as sincere can get. And usually he doesn't answer my prayers right away, but this night, this prayer, he did just that. You know what he told me? (At this point of the interview, I realized GOLDIE had me on the edge of my seat, waiting/anticipating the very next words to come out this yellow muthaphucka's mouth. Because hey, I've never heard God speak. Has he ever spoke to you? (Im getting off course, let me get back to regularly scheduled programming) "I guess the number seven is the number of completion, because God only said seven words to me." His first three were, "Grow Up First". His next four were, "Then I'll Bless You." Let's just say, the very next day I did a total 180. I acted like that motown philly group and went from a boy 2 a man. 1Corinthians 13:11. No longer was I waiting for my friends to come along on this ride, I grabbed ahold of the reigns and began this life long journey in becoming the best black man I can possibly be. Reguardless of rap Ima be a man first. As GOLDIE puts it in his alicia keys intro freestyle....."TAKE ME AS I AM. I STAND HERE AS A MAN, I DO AS I CAN, MATTER O FACT THE BOY DOES AS HE PLEASES AND LORD JESUS SEES THIS, AND HE KEEPS BLESSING ME, AND KEEPS BRINGING OUT THE BEST OF ME. So expect the best nothin less.....1
