About Me

I am a writer and a collector--of people,stories, recipes, dictionaries, books. I have written novels, short stories, a children's book, comic scripts and gaming modules. I've written an IndoPak cookbook. My first novel is a YA quest fantasy. Currently I'm working on a YA horror, YA fantasy, YA SF and an urban fantasy/paranormal.I like to learn things, to try things out. I've mushed dogs in Alaska, swum with dolphins in the Bahamas, milked a goat in Arkansas, taught English and ESL, learned at least a little of 7 or 8 languages, been an insurance rater and an IRS auditor, hatched and raised baby ducks, trained dogs, worked as a meeting planner for various government agencies in DC, walked the volcanos in Hawaii, been Plan B for a group of Authors, studied German in Austria, skied(badly)in Colorado, did wallclimbing in Utah, snorkeled here and there, learned to cook Indian, Japanese, Chinese and some Korean food.I can shoot a gun or a bow, catch a fish and clean it if necessary, make a fire, grow food, cook it or can it, haul rocks, clean a house, paint a picture, crochet an afghan, make jewelry (I like pearls and stones), make soap or candles, use a chainsaw, clean fish tanks, and a thousand other things. I'm a generalist, not a specialist.Writing allows me to entertain (since I can neither sing nor dance nor play an instrument), meet new people, research interesting topics, and pull my hair out at regular intervals.
