James Gist
Forward
James C. Gist III, born the son of Linda and James C. Gist, Jr.. Gist attended Good Counsel High School, and was the team captain and starting power forward for the basketball team. He averaged 19.5 points per game as a senior to go along with 10.3 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game, leading the Falcons of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) to an 18-12 record. As a freshman at Maryland, Gist saw action in 31 of 32 games in his rookie season, drawing two starts. He averaged 6.2 points points per game and 3.9 rebounds per game. He totaled 31 blocks, good enough for third on the squad. He also totaled 10 multi-rejection games and had 19 games of at least one blocked shot. As a sophomore, Gist made 21 starts and appeared in 32 games. He led the team and ranked fifth in the ACC with 1.59 blocked shots per game. He posted a total 51 blocked shots, the seventh-best total for a sophomore in school history. He averaged 8.4 points and 4.8 rebounds. Grabbed at least five rebounds in 19 games. He tallied two double-doubles and scored in double figures 13 times. As a Junior, Gist became the main power forward, Starting in 33 games and appearing in 34 games. He was named to the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic All-Tournament Team. He averaged 12.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. He ranked third on the team and 23rd in the ACC in scoring(12.6 ppg), finished second on the squad and seventh in the league in rebounding (7.2 rpg), fourth in the ACC in defensive rebounds (5.00 rpg), and ranked fourth in the ACC in blocked shots (2.12 bpg). He finished with 72 blocked shots, the second-highest single-season total among juniors at Maryland. Led the Terps in scoring during ACC play (13.9 ppg), scored in double figures 28 times, grabbed at least five rebounds 27 times, and finished with 10-plus rebounds in six games. He recorded six double-doubles, finished as the team's leading rebounder 11 times, and paced the squad in scoring on four occasions. He led the team in blocked shots 13 times, blocked at least one shot in 30 of 34 games, and scored in double figures in 18 of the team's final 20 games. He was an All-ACC honorable mention at seasons end. As a senior, Gist will arguably be one of the best power forwards in college basketball. His athleticism and potential could easily earn him all american honors.
