About Me

Matthew Gunderson was born in 1979 in Marysville, CA to a military family. He moved around a lot until the age of 10, when his family settled in Spartanburg, SC. Two years later, Matthew started studying the clarinet.
After graduating from Spartanburg High School in 1997, he attended Limestone College for a year, studying with Chip Hill, before transferring to the University of South Carolina.
At Carolina, Matthew studied clarinet with R. Douglas Graham of the South Carolina Philharmonic while earning a Bachelor's of Music Education with a Minor in Clarinet Performance in 2001.
Matthew would return to USC to work toward a Master's of Music History while serving as the clarinet Graduate Assistant and teaching classes in Music Appreciation.
In December of 2003, Matthew moved to Milwaukee, WI to be with his future wife, Erin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, earning a Master's in Clarinet Performance in 2006 while studying with Todd Levy of the Milwaukee Symphony.
In June of 2006, Matthew enlisted in the US Army. After Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training, he joing the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command Band at idyllic Fort Monroe in Southeastern Virginia as a clarinet player.
Matthew and his wife, Erin, live on Fort Monroe with their 1 year old daughter, Abigail, and two cats, Shosti and Rachy, and have another daughter due in August of 2009.
Matthew will be moving to Ft. Meade, MD to join the United States Army Field Band as their new Assistant Librarian in April, 2009
